Yes, tech is a hard thing to balance. I wouldn't mind having more tech options as long as they were worth something. I imagine it would be quite annoying to have a tech tree full of fluff.

Added Non-aggression pacts and Cold War to the list. I think the game needs more diplomacy options, including an alliance between def. pact and perm. alliance (maybe like in Civ2).

Agreed - but the current tech tree is full of massive jumps, and some sorta weird associations.
More techs are good!
Hmmm - and still no Super Praetorian
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

Yes, I do agree that there's a kind of weird association. And if you don't research in the right order, you could be left in the lurch. In one game I played, all my meles units were obsoleted; I had discovered SAM Infantry, but not regular Infantry, and I was left to fight off Genghis, Montezuma and Huayna Capac at the same time, with only SAMs and Cavalry. Weird.

i am so tired of people wanting new civs. they can only do so much with them, give them a break.
imo they have more than enough already. in fact soem of them should not even be there, US included. i think civs that were around BC should be the only ones in the game. jmo

Really? It would be so weird though, in the modern age. I'm afraid I must respectfully disagree.
Around BC, huh? Then this would be your civ list.
Carthaginians
Celts
Chinese
Egyptians
Greeks
Indians
Koreans
Persians
Romans

I would also like to see some kind of option of piracy/banditry on trade routes. Mind you I'd like to see the old caravan unit back.
I'm guessing that will be as popular as the Super Praetorian

you have left out qite a few, but the point is that none of the 'modern' civs existed back than & came into existence due to the older civs.
maybe using a variation of thee vassalage theme the 'modern' civs could be created. doubt if its viable.
it was not so much that i think the game needed to be setup this way, as that i was trying to make the point that 1/2 the civs people come up with in an effort to be realistic(whatever that means in a computer rpg/srategy turn based game) really dont belong.
the other thing people dont gwet is that historically most civs have something in common/the same as some other civ(s) - its all been done before.
i think they did a very good job on giving us a very good selection of civs that pretty much cover everything with the options available. soundfs like the exp is going to add more depth to the already wide range of choices/options.
bottom line- any more civs would be redundant.
i am with nugog, would rather see them refing/fixing gameplay(&specifically the issues he mentions) than using their resources developing yet another civ.
and better yet i would REALLY like to see them use their resources on a smac2 game
As far as new units, the only real discrepencies I can see are in the naval ones. The boat game is a very shallow one IMO, across all ages. I rarely feel a need to make more than a few transport ships and even then it often feels like more bother than it's worth. And maybe it's just me, but I rarely see the AI using ships in conjunction with land attacks. The most elaborate it gets is using a ship to drop 2 units on my land and sacrificing them to the city defense gods.

I don't understand why people want new civs so much. Or units. I think there are plenty enough already, so strategically there's no need.
I only want more civs with more traits. Adding traits to the game is great, but adding traits to the game without any new civs isn't that great (as the end result would be too many trait combinations left unused)
Of units I only wanted one added (ignoring the new UU's for the new civs), and that unit should be somewhere between the catapult and the cannon... and we've got that unit now, so no need for more

Also the air forces need improvement.
I'm not sure why Bombers etc. can't gain any experience points. Granted they don't really win any battles as such, but they could at least gain a few points through Airports.
