Civ4: Omega Expansion

    Are we asking about ideas for an expansion, or for Civ 5? Cause I can think of a number of things I wouldn't mind seeing in the game that would require TOTAL overhauls of the game to implement.

      I'd really prefer ideas for an expansion at this point. Civ5 ideas are great, but can't be practically applied to another expansion.

      So the preference here is for ideas that could be implemented in a second Civ4 expansion codenamed here "Omega."

        Officially for an expansion, but I like others havn't bothered to limit ourselves to that. Realistically this is a "What would you like to see in Civ" thread.

          That's fine. Is it unreasonable to ask that statements be qualified with a description of intent (i.e. Civ5 vs. Civ4 Omega Exp.)?

              I think that resources should also incorporate a value per location so that the size/advance of your civ dictates how much resources you need.

              Example. you have 20 cities and you have iron on your border with a value of 1000 "units'. If you are only in the middle ages a city needs 10 "units" so there is no shortage (200/1000), instead you have 800 "units" to trade. The more advanced the civ becomes the more it needs iron (factories, tanks, al kind of buildiongs etc).

              So at a certain number of turns later your empire grew with 10 cities but now the you need 40 "units" so from an abundance of resources you now have a shortfall. Since you need now 1200 "units" you need to find someone who will trade you this extra 200 "units".

              This way a new system is in place to manage the growth of a civ. Also the shortfall makes more strategic choices possible.

              Suppose nobody wants to trade you iron, then you could decide to destroy/recycle some buildings/railroads so that you are back below the treshold and replace them with military units so that you can start a resource war.

              Also think about the choices you can make for your energy plants (depending on where you want to use your strategic resource for)

              I used the term "unit" but that is probably a bad name for the value is a timeless indicator. Its only pupose is to quantify demand and supply at any time.
              Brilliant . Unfortunately I think we are discussing features that'd have to be in a Civ5. I think overhauling the game in this fashion would be too much... in terms of altering the core Civ4 game, for an XP.

              I'd like to also see different prices for goods for each Civ, based on supply and demand. Thereby, you can buy iron from iron rich Civ A at low prices and trade them to iron poor Civ B, which does not know Civ A or any other iron rich civs, and sell at a big profit .

                You know, since Warlords alters existing leaders' stats, there are 6 combinations that were previously used and are not anymore.

                These are:

                1. Fin/Org (formerly Washington)
                2. Fin/Exp (Victoria)
                3. Phi/Cre (Frederick)
                4. Agg/Org (Tokugawa)
                5. Exp/Cre (Cyrus)
                6. Cre/Fin (Catherine)

                I think it probable that these combinations will find their way back into Civ through the next expansion for people who really liked these combinations and missed them after Warlords. Here's some ideas...

                1. Theodora
                2. William of Orange
                3. Pericles
                4. Nebuchadnezzar
                5. Hammurabi
                6. Meiji?

                Any better suggestions?

                    Any ideas for how spies can be improved?

                      • A colonial age scenario (could be the same as Sebastian88s European Imperialism) The major civilizations (England, Spain, France, Holland, Portugal) and some smaller civilizations in the colonized areas (maybe not all smaller but less advanced and such) and maybe some like Ottomans. You have to be able to maintain the huge costs of maintiance, and a big military, without letting other countries getting too much more advanced then you. You should loose by falling too far behind (like if another civilization has 3 more technologies then you, if you fall behind a certin amount of money, or if you loose a certin amount of cities) and you win by getting the opposite (3 technologies no one else has, exceeding a certin amount of money, gaining a bunch of cities) This scenario should also have always war on.

                          Didn't they do away with the Civ2 spy because of anti-terrorism limits on game ratings?

                          Nevertheless, I don't think I've used Civ4's Spy more than once. Maybe they could make a more complicated infiltrator type rather than the more traditional assassin function? As it is, they might as well take the spy out for all the use she's getting.

                              I still don't think there's a chance of bringing back the "Poison Water Supply" ability.
