That's a defining charaistic of Civ... I don't see how it could really work any other way.

I would personally like them to change diffculty levels by making the AI smarter, instead of making things for you take more time to make.

      - The religious victory idea mentioned earlier is a good one, methinks. The spread of religion should perhaps be made a little harder in that case, but also, the "teocracy" civic should be modified so that it doesn't stop the spread of non-state religions, but only makes the successful spreading of other religions significantly more difficult.

      - I would be happy if 90% of time and resources spent on making CivV were invested in improving the AI. I would gladly forgo all improvements in graphics and appearance if the AI was significantly improved.

      - Related to that, improved diplomacy - especially there should be a convincing illusion projected to the player that AI's "get" what's going on in the world, politically speaking. That they better understand the consequences of certain of their actions in harming or improving relations. Specific examples:
      * Say Monty, who is situated on the other side of a pangea map from you, declares war on you, and sends troops towards your borders, through the lands of another state, say China, that they have an open borders agreement with. In such a case, you should ALWAYS be able to demand that the state letting your enemy use their territory as a base for their attacks cease this by canceling open borders. (Perhaps, to help such things as this there should be an open borders option that allowed only non-military units into your territory.)

      * There should be an "ultimatum" option, where you plainly say "unless you comply with this demand, we will immediately declare war". This would be useful in such situations as described above.

      * The AI should count gifted military units during wartime as significant help from an ally. As it is, I don't think such gifts figure into the relations calculations at all.

      * The AI should not keep asking for the same gift/tribute/trade agreement etc. again and again when you keep refusing. It is EXTREMELY annoying. They should get the message after a few refusals; at least SIGNIFICANTLY increase the minimum time in turns between repeat-offers, so that for example, after the first refusal, it's 20 turns, the second 40 turns, the third 80 turns, etc.

      * If the AI does something that would, in real life, elicit a justified negative response from you, they should ACT LIKE THEY UNDERSTAND THIS! For example, if their spy gets caugth in your territory, or if they are allowing your enemy to use their territory to attack you through, then they should respond to this by appologizing, trying to explain, and trying to appease you - at least provided that they are a weaker state then you, and have something to fear from your wrath.

      * In a tight space race, my opponent may offer to trade a his "flight" technology with my space-race relevant technology, and may value "flight" significantly higher than my tech, since flight has military uses and military advances tend to be more valuable during most of the game. The AI should understand that this is not so in the special circumstances of a heated space race! In other words, the AI should be able to take into account changes in the actual values of things depending on the circumstances.

      - You should be able to set your status towards particular leaders as "refuses to speak"; the AI can do it, so why must I put up with their incessant whining? Especially since the diplomacy AI is what it is, a pathetic automaton with strings showing. If they have to be able to speak to me at any time, then they should be able to come up with something intelligent to say or propose!

      - Improvements in special-type games; for example, having tried the "always peace" option, one cannot help but notice that the AI still builds up it's military as if war was an option, and occasionally switches to military civics. The AI should understand the modified rules of special scenarios and act accordingly!

      - I would like to see a new version of the one city challenge, where ALL civilizations were restricted to a single city. Also, what about, say, a THREE-city challenge (plus a version where ALL civilizations were similarly restricted)? I can see greatly interesting games arising from that - for example, setting cultural victory as the only victory condition in such a scenario, you'd have a great culture race!

      - More bananas! And a banana-victory condition, achieved through a total control over the world's banana-resource!
Only the most intelligent, handsome/beautiful denizens of apolyton may join the game :)

I would very much like to be able to set frindship levels towards the AI so the AI will no who you don't want tham to be trading. Also this will cause them to stop making demands in order to keep relations with you high. When the AI askes you to go to war you should be aloud to reqest something for that. You should be aloud to offer to go to war. MightyTiny, I agree with all of those additions exept the second one. I think that 25-33% of effort should go to improving the AI.

Two things on the top of my head.

          1. which has been mentioned much before, resources should be finite, just like chopping forest gives you 52 shields, one iron deposit should not be enough to supply 10 cities, and food should be able to be traded.

          2. Assasinations. Maybe have each civ use 2-3 leaders throughout the course of history. I'd like to see more special operations, covert stuff earlier in the game. I want to be able to stir up trouble in neighboring border cities and have them flip to me because of it, or have them split altogether (kashmir, southern iraq, sicily after WWII, etc).

          3. More instability, ie civil wars.

          4. most importantly, SMARTER AI (although they did do a pretty decent job on civ4 i must say).

Okay, that turned to 4 things 0=)
May it come that all the Radiances will be known as ones own radiances

            I agree with you 98%

but the AI effort should be closer to 60-70%

hell, i would buy a game identcal to civ4 with much improved AI for full price!

come to think about it, an AI focused Expanion would be Brillient!

Will the much anticipated expansion pack finally come with the new and improved PBEM opponents that won't ruin the game for everyone else?

or do we have to wait until Civ V for this?

This is pathetic. Enjoy what you have.

Mindless consumers. No sooner will Civ V be out than some loser will be looking forward to Civ VI.

off course...that's how progress is made: trying to improve what exists and invent now stuff. This is not pathetic, it is human nature...

Right now my best hopes are for expansion packs and mods... but years from now my biggest hope for Civilization V will be that everyone realizes that one keystroke is not that big of a deal, and they actually write it out: Civ V. This CIV and the implied CiV is pretty obnoxious.
