I'm running the same video card as you and all is good ... per patch was good ... premature 1.08 patch was terrible with the in game movies but 1.09 made it all good again.

I have same video card but 1ghz RAM and 2.4ghz cpu. Were you having problems with video prior to the patches? I was not. Oh and I am running the latest nvidia driver which I downloaded from nvidia.com 2 days ago.

      • Nikolai,
        That's very informative post.

That means that game is updating 1.00 saves to 1.01 format on patch install, and if saves were not in default designated folder they would not be updated, and thus would get unplayable with new patch.

        P.S.
Interesting thing is that pulled off 1.08 patch uses old 1.00 format for saved games (so old saves always work).

That's the only time I've seen that problem.
Not sure if I got that last part, Nikolai. Will keep this in english since alas too few read norwegian.. and also this might be important.

I did a different copy-thing than your friend. I tried the ingame "check for upgrades-download". It took ages and errored once at ~50%. Next try was just as slow.
On my other PC I downloaded the .exe from the link (filefront) in the first page of this thread, copied it to a "floppy" and to an arbitrary folder on my game machine. Pressed cansel at ~40% ingame, but kept the game minimized.
Next I executed the .exe, it ran w/o problems, and restarted the computer in the end.
Started cIV just fine, but trying to load any old save gave me the error. Started a new game which seems fine, but trying to load a game from within also gave the error.
According to nbarclay over at AU the course 100A is made with v1.09, but to me it errored.

          • Civ 4 randomly crash to the desktop with increasing frequency. Mostly it just crash to the desktop
But as others, I've experienced reboot of system several times, once with a nasty beep.

I have 2 PC's Both have this problem ... doesnt all
            PC1: XP2400 / Geforce 6200 PC2: P4/3200 / RADEON X600

I'e 3 savegames I've moved the savegames between PC's, They react simiar (random)

Game start to crach around year 1950 on both PC's, Increasing frequency, and cant take a hole turn without crach after 2000.
Have managed to 2005 in one game, crach after 10-15 moves now, not fun to play)

All on huge maps, small maps crash 3-5 times per game 4 me.

I can play BF2 CSS and all other games, BUT i can't play CSS after a Civ crach, have to restart!!!

My systems are up2date (newest drivers and all.. old driver doesnt work either)

Another thing that doesnt help is "the New fix for the renderer error" (using the PakBuild.exe, did they forget to unpack something ???) didnt make any difference anyway!

I think it sux big time to put a unfinished game like this on the marked!!!

Did'nt work for my save games with 1.09 didnt know there was a 1.08

Dont belive it will work on new games either!

Are there a new patch on the way or can i get my money back ???

            • Heh... I guess the last part was somewhat unstructured... What I meant was that I had updated and started a game with the new patch. He thought he had updated, but it turned out that only was true for the original on his C.`drive and not for the (directly copied-->ctrl+c then ctrl+v) copy on his new harddisc. And since he started up the game with the new copy, he actually tried to open a 1.09 save on a 1.00 game. player1, I don't know if you understood that? Thanks for the kind words anyway. As for your problem Caligula: Could it be that the multiple cancelations could have somehow corrupted something?

              • I've had no issues with the patch so far. Not very informative, but people are using this thread to judge whether to upgrade.

Perhaps attaching a poll to this thread would be good?

The last part made sence now, thnx. Different story it seems, but same error.
Of course my canceling might have screwed it up. However it gave no errors at all while updating, everything looked just normal up to the "open saved game".
Canceling a process shouldn't have such effect, but who knows with this game??

Did you use the ingame upgrade or some downloaded version?
Anyone tried the download after failing ingame?

                  • Just to check, did you say that you had Civ4 running while installing the patch?

                    • Yep.
No information available on closing or not.
                      That might be it.

I'm currently trying my third ingame download.
The game searched for updates and found yet again v1.09 available. I am at 91%, so I will know soon.

                      I'll be back!

                      • The setup has detected that version 1.09.00 of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is already installed.
This setup updates Sid Meiers's Civilization 4 to the same version that is already installed, therefore this update is not needed.
Do you want to install the update anyway?
                        YES/NO
                        Pressing YES.

The InstallShield(R) is working as before
                        ...searching for needed updates...
YES I want to install Xfire
Dunno what that does, but might want to play MP one day. Overwriting existing, ok.
                        Open game...
                        Open file: AU course 100A
                        IT OPENS!

                        Case closed!
Conclusion: Do not have the game open while updating

If I keep up my current post rate I'll get there before X-mas myself..

And please Moderator: this post is not an attempt to rise my count as to icrease my level according to rule XVIII in the forum rules.
That would be violating rule XIX,a) and also XVI. I'm not doing that.

                            • I have since installed the 1.09 patch. After receiving latest save file for PBEM, it comes to part where I have to input my password and after I do, then click ok, nothing happens. I can keep clicking ok and ditto..nothing changes. If I click cancel, password screen goes away and then initialization completes, screen goes black a sec and I am back to Main Menu!

How do I resolve this? Thanks

Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
