Hiya,
I'm currently running 1.08 patch and it seems more stable on my pc than 1.00 - no CTD so far and some of the amended rules are apparent (e.g. horses not visible at start, late game tech takes a little longer etc).
But I've discovered a new bug that I didnt get with 1.00:
Playing a hotseat game on standard map (2 human 5 AI) the science advisor screen has a minor bug. It was round about medieval era and I had recently discovered Theology but I looked back to some earlier techs in the tree that I had skipped (e.g. Horse Riding) and noticed that Mystisism and Polythesium appeared un researched (which was impossible if I had Theology) and when I clicked on them out of curiosity they wouldnt hi-light.
When I exited the advisor screen it prompted me 'what do you want to research next?' so it obviously wouldn't let me do them again! I picked a different tech from the menu (not in the advisor screen) and it was ok afterwards so I think this is more of a cosmetic error.
Does anyone know what bugs were responsible for 1.08 being axed? I'm reluctant to switch to 1.09 because what I have at the moment is working ok.
P.S. still getting noticable slow down after a couple of hours of playing

My brother got this in his 1.08 game (started as 1.00 first).
At some point, more then dozen researched techs were tagged as unresearched.
But it's still cometic bug.
After he selected proper unresearched tech to discover it all got back to normal next turn.

I know that they can't compete with a place like Apolyton, of course... But they should keep that place up to date! The site looks dead.
From my experience with Civ3 (when one of my mods was regulary updated to official website), publishers have all "keys" to official sites.
What this mean now is that for everything developers want to add to site they need to ask someone from Take2, then it needs to take some time etc...
And publishers are usually slow with such things.
Since they usually see official sites as stickt promotial pre-release marketing tool.
That why official sites for the games are usually never especially dynamic.
P.S.
Someone official should correct me if I'm wrong.
Had the problems with skipping movies before the patch.... still have the problems with skipping movies...
Strangely enough the patch actually fixed the intro movie skipping and I have now for the first time seen the intro. Nice work. But the in game wonder movies skipp even more now. Maybe you can imagine my dissapointment when I started the game and saw the intro for the first time, only to find that the wonder movies now are even worse!
I guess an ok intro is at least a step in the right direction but still...

Interesting...
I had some opening movie sluggness before patch and have it still with patch (sound is OK).
Wonder movies were always ok.

I had no problems pre-patch but with the new one installed I get this strange graphic problem. The city is here but its name and production are over there. When I center the window over the city the display lines up properly again (but the problem then occurs to Athens which is nearby).
Granted, I have old display drivers and will test with the newer ones soon.

I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
all game play is improved and now it is just 2-3 seconds for the pc to function properly after i quit the game which was 10-15 seconds prior to patch.
however the eyes of julius ceasar has shifted and his eyes are white totally. although he is more scary now, has this happened to anybody else and is there a fix for it?

Same thing here
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
O.K., I´ve installed 1.09 now and it works fine,
even seems to run a bit faster.
I´ve also tried out what was mentioned earlier in this thread i.e. using FreeRAM XP Pro after loading a game.
It is really as it was mentioned. After loading a game the available RAM sunk to 2%. After using FreeRAM it rose again to 30-40% (and stayed there during play).
After I reloaded a game during the same session it sunk again to below 5% (and using FreeRAM a second time got it to 25-30% again)

I had this error pre-patch with the v1.00 in one game. This is not a new v1.09-bug.
I have no idea what display driver I have, but my computer is fairly new (oct ~15th).

sorry to drag this in again, but the horses resource thingy....
humans make use of the resources that they have nearby. they dont develop the idea of riding upon an animal then go out looking for one. they see the horse and think, can it carry me? an lo and behold you have horseback riding. if we were to be anything close to realistic, you should NOT be allowed to research horsebackriding at all unless you DID have horses in your cultural radius. same with all resources, it is their availability that allows for their use.
AND, copper is easy to use, but fairly rare. bronze is an alloy of copper and TIN, which is EXTREMELY rare. iron is found everywhere. the reason the Iron age came after the bronze age is because iron is far harder to work. which is why the statement that iron was in use before bronze is wrong.
You only need one or two horses for a person to figure out the whole 'riding' thing. The resource provides enough horses for an entire civilisation to eat. Er... ride.

The Ages of Man-Mod for CtP2 has it implemented like this.
In AoM if you connect a strategic resource to your cities, it enables you to detect a certain technology (from a list of corrssponding technologies) without having to research it.
You aren´t prevented from normally researching the technologie/s though, even if you have no access to the resource.
