  • Oh good evening Chirurgie. Glad to see you like the new patch as well
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

      • are you being asked a password? I usually just double click the savefile when it arrives by mail, why don't you try to bypass the password request by opening the file manually instead of loading it from the menu?

          might be a good idea.

I'm a little scared to install the patch, especially since the game is playable now.

After reading this thread and wading through most of the cfc thread on the patch (which was even more horrifying), i'm not sure if I should try to fix what aint broken..so to speak.

Of course, if it screws up the game, I can always re-install, so I suppose there would be no real harm in trying, just hassle.

Funny, i've never been afraid of a patch before...

Hmm I did not realise you could directly open it up! I have been manually opening it and when initializing usually about 75%, it asks for password before it can complete itself.

Will try that but if it asks me password, I will be back to square 1

And since he started up the game with the new copy, he actually tried to open a 1.09 save on a 1.00 game. player1, I don't know if you understood that? Thanks for the kind words anyway. As for your problem Caligula: Could it be that the multiple cancelations could have somehow corrupted something?
              Now I understand.

              • Datajack, try starting a game anyway. I get that message simply because my notebook only has 32 MB VRAM instead of the 64 MB VRAM, but it runs better under the patch. (No black fog of war bug and I can now see the leaders.)

What it does mean is don't even dream about emailing tech support if you run into issues.

                    Try this

                    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4

                    Open up _Civ4Config

then set this value to 1:

                    [CONFIG]

; Don't show minimum specification warnings
                    HideMinSpecWarning = 0
Also you'll have to reset your graphics options because it will have put your graphics details to Low.

                    Very helpful 'feature'

                      • By the way, has anyone mentioned why the official civ 4 site has no mention of the patch? other than what was said on the 16th.

                        • Firaxis just hit the button "abandon site". Or something.
I know that they can't compete with a place like Apolyton, of course... But they should keep that place up to date! The site looks dead.

                          • Just installed patch on two laptops, one very low spec with intel 64mb graphic card, and she now works fine, although a bit chuggy. Previously it had the 'black' map problem, and floating leader eyes, but now 100% cool.

Installed patch on a high spec laptop, 256mb ATI card, with 3.2ghz HT, and no real noticable difference as goes like a rocket still; so works fine there to.

The Firaxis site, all i see when i go there is tumbleweed blowing through it, with the windows boarded up!

                            • So good so far!

Installed the 1.09 patch, it's fast now (about 2 mins for the 28Mb for me)

                              Before (product release version 1.00):
I previously had an intermittent rendering error on startup, on my nVidia GeForce MX 440 video card. When I did get past this intermittent problem, the intro sequence had the audio stuttering in and out, and when I got to gameplay the main display window was black - a permanent "fog of war" (although the radar frame filled in as I explored, the main frame remained dark).

                              After (at least so far):
The patch installed, although with an error (something that it couldn't find the source?). Continued on, and the update completed without any other complaints.
Started up OK. Strangely, in the intro sequence now the audio is OK, though the video is stuttering. However, gameplay seems ok so far - the eternal blanket of war fog has been lifted!

                              Happy Happy Joy Joy!
Guess I better ask my secretary to cancel my morning meetings... ;-)

                              • Hiya,

I'm currently running 1.08 patch and it seems more stable on my pc than 1.00 - no CTD so far and some of the amended rules are apparent (e.g. horses not visible at start, late game tech takes a little longer etc).

But I've discovered a new bug that I didnt get with 1.00:

Playing a hotseat game on standard map (2 human 5 AI) the science advisor screen has a minor bug. It was round about medieval era and I had recently discovered Theology but I looked back to some earlier techs in the tree that I had skipped (e.g. Horse Riding) and noticed that Mystisism and Polythesium appeared un researched (which was impossible if I had Theology) and when I clicked on them out of curiosity they wouldnt hi-light.

When I exited the advisor screen it prompted me 'what do you want to research next?' so it obviously wouldn't let me do them again! I picked a different tech from the menu (not in the advisor screen) and it was ok afterwards so I think this is more of a cosmetic error.

Does anyone know what bugs were responsible for 1.08 being axed? I'm reluctant to switch to 1.09 because what I have at the moment is working ok.

P.S. still getting noticable slow down after a couple of hours of playing
