      HideMinSpecWarning = 1

will turn it off. I can't be sure, but I think the warning was negatively effecting my game (the animations were frozen). Now that I've turned the warning off the animations work fine. Who knows if it was actually to blame, but at least now I don't have to read the erroneous notification.
Hey, that's great! By changing that one parameter, the dialog box disappeared and the problems I had under the Graphics tab cleared up also. Thanks.

Now for that pesky intro skip.

      • Even with this speq warning, you can still enable animations in the graphics options.
That's the odd thing: The option was ON, not off. But with the warning some (not all) of the animations were frozen (I should have clarified that in my first post, that it wasn't all the animations). So there was something else going on.

EDIT: Broken Hawk: Glad that it helped. Also, I went to VTech back in 97 - 98 (then moved out West). Good to see a "Go Hokies!" in your sig
One of these days I'll make 501 posts, and you won't have to look at my silly little diplomat anymore.

        • The only unit's animation that I really pay attention to are the worker's, so having unanimated units could speed up the game!

It amazes me how many people I run into on the 'Net that have a connection to VT. When I'm not Civing in my spare time, I'm following the Hokies.

            • Again, if there is a patch developer lurking...

              Amphibious Warfare Bug?

Last night I was engaged in a island hopping operation.

My normal tactic is to bombard a city's defenses with Battleships and Destroyers first. Air strikes from Carrier based Jet Fighters also help. Once the defending units are pretty much wiped out, Marines or Navy SEALS based on Transports will take the island city (located on one tile). All is well.

Due to some poor logistical planning, I found myself attacking an island city with Transports full of every land unit except Marines. On a whim, I started to attack the city's defenses with Gunships as they sat atop their Transports. Once all but one of the defending units were eliminated, a piece of Artillery destroyed the last enemy and rolled off the Transport and turned the city into ruins.

It states in the Civilopedia that land units cannot attack from a Transport. I assume it doesn't mean Marines and Navy SEALS.

In CivII, the only land unit that can attack a city or enemy land unit from a Transport is a Marine.

My guess is I have stumbled across a CivIV bug. Anyone else have the same experience?

              • All units are able to attack from the sea. The difference between marines/seals and other units is that they (marines) have the amphibious promotion. Without this promotion, all units face a 50% penalty when attacking from the sea or across a river. Marines have by default the promotion so they can attack with 100% power when doing an amphibious assault.

A very elegant solution, IMO. Too bad they haven't used it for mountains as well. There should be some units (Alpine troops) that can pass peaks without penalty, all others losing 50% of their health for doing so. Later on some technology should also unlock tunnel building. Oh well, maybe someone will do a mod.

                • Yea, I realize that now. If other land units can make an amphibious assault and/or gain the amphibious promotion, it takes away from the usefulness of Marines and Navy SEALS. Oh well. When you talk about tunneling are you referring to Sappers?
