  • It was reported that this couldn't be done in v100 by a reliable source- I doubt they'd list it as a fix otherwise. I'd guess someone might want to make a couple artists to rush the cultural expansion of a border city, but who knows what else might be useful...

I've been playing CIv4 MP compulsively since 1.09 came out. I've only crashed once and I think that was my fault.

      • Ljube is right!

Well Haven, the problem is that the patch doesn't appear to be compatible in international MP games, at least not the majority of them involving Australia as we've noticed attempting to play two games with at least two players in each hailing from down under.

There were also a couple of players in the US who reported multiplaying problems. In fact it wasn't until we all deleted the patch that we were even able to play MP games, and this is involving two games with a pool of around ten players!

So I don't know the extent of your MP games played, but perhaps you haven't had any problems because you've only played against Americans, or maybe just others who have the right/wrong game depending on which one you consider right or wrong.

I think one Canadian actually reported the problem as well.

        • Check this thing out:
Current version of the fix is not compatible with 1.52. It either does nothing or crashes. Update addressing this issue is on its way. The patch I was coding during last month is finally out. The patch is compatible with 1.00 and 1.09 versions of civ4. So, here we go. You will need 3...

            • lolololol! this is what I've been saying all along... this game is junk. and even its patches are junk. I even got an ad for some program called xfire, like a messenger client.

commercials in a game patch!? holy cow, this is it. if I had nothing to do but civ I would blow up firaxis' offices.

do not trust to hope, it has abandoned this game.

I'm an American, but I mostly play against Brits.

                • In case someone from Firaxis/2K is lurking on this thread...

I recently downloaded the v1.09 patch and have played several games since.

As far as I can tell, the patch works as advertised at the beginning of this thread.

                  Some things of note:

                  - the intro skip is still present but the WoW movie skips have disappeared

                  - the Cheshire cat and black tile bugs are gone. I think I actually miss the Cheshire cat bug, the various civ leaders are too cartoonish for my taste but I guess I'll get over myself. I installed the Blue Marble Terrain Mod to brighten up what I consider a dreary map. I really like the way explored/unexplored terrain is handled in CivII vs. CivIV. But never mind, I like a lot things better about CivII.

                  - as CivIV starts a dialog box opens "Your machine is below minimum specifications. Civ4 will not run on this hardware setup." Funny. I didn't get that message with v1.00. My specs are:

At any rate I click on OK and proceed.

                  - under the Options menu --> Graphics tab I use a Screen Resolution of 800 x 600 (I know it's not an option but that's what my desktop is set for). I'm too blind for anything else. However, I think it is running at 1024 x 768 anyway. When I set the Graphics Level, etc. to High and restart the program, everything is reset back to Low. As a consequence, I have check and uncheck the boxes to the right as I am allowed/prefer to.

                  - concerning the MP issues discussed above, I cannot comment on since have not I tried MP. I have a hard time beating the AI at Noble level. I'm afraid my civ would be a early victim.

                  - the hillbiilly bango plucking music played when combating a barbarian is insulting considering I am a dumb American redneck.

I finally got the patch running on both my systems. My laptop receives the same warning, and it meets the recommended specs. The message can be disabled in the Civ4Config.ini file:

; Don't show minimum specification warnings
                      HideMinSpecWarning = 1

will turn it off. I can't be sure, but I think the warning was negatively effecting my game (the animations were frozen). Now that I've turned the warning off the animations work fine. Who knows if it was actually to blame, but at least now I don't have to read the erroneous notification.
One of these days I'll make 501 posts, and you won't have to look at my silly little diplomat anymore.

Even with this speq warning, you can still enable animations in the graphics options.

Yes, set aside two, maybe three days, to look at Nikolai's Picture Thread. You can see lots of fun Nikolai moments there - especially how Nikolai shows his "playa" creds. Also there always seems to be a fork in play somewhere.
