When a game is working acceptably well, I agree that it's best for people not to try a buggy patch. But for people who can't play at all without the patch (or at least can't play without using a workaround that takes a lot of the fun out of the game), gambling on a buggy patch can be a whole lot better than what they're stuck with now. I really wish they would approve of posting the patch with clear disclaimers that the patch is buggy and unsupported and that people shouldn't try it unless they are having serious problems with the unpatched game. It's not an issue for me, but it is for some other people - such as people who are facing the blacked-out terrain problem that I faced until I replaced my video card.

I wonder if this is the same bug and what the WB not working anymore may have to do with this...

I definitely don't think the patch should be posted without a very strong disclaimer. But I do think it would be best to go ahead and make it available for the benefit of the people who are having the most serious problems.

That's not a bug, it randomises their behaviour not their threats.

If there weren't people who find the game unplayable or only marginally playable without a patch, I would agree with that sentiment. But I know how irritated I'd be if I were still using my old video card, and I knew that a patch existed that would probably let me play but no one would make it available to me. A wait of a day or two might not be too big a deal, but anything longer than that would - especially since there's no guarantee that they won't find additional bugs and end up delaying the patch longer than they currently expect.

I happen to agree with this. Since we understand there is a known bug we have to accept that there may be other, bigger, less friendly bugs also.
With that in mind I don't think it's as good an idea as it sounds to "just try it".

I am very irritated now because updating to the newest video card driver still doesn't help.
So I am willing to take my chances. I mean, if the patch doesn't work, I still can't play the game anyway, so what have I got to lose?(\__/) 07/07/1937 - Never forget

Maybe you don't think it's a good idea, but shouldn't that be my decision to make? I can't play the game at all right now, so really anything which doesn't fry my operating system would have to be an improvement.
Please post the link.

MarkG doesn't want people at Apolyton giving out the patch so just go to the MP lobby and ask people there. They're giving it to each other.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

MarkG has asked people not to post the patch AND has gone so far as to remove a link that used to be here.
If you feel the need to place your instalation in jepordy on the off-chance that this fixes something, I have no issue with that. I think it's overreacting, but then the game works for me (and always has) so...
