I didn't do a full study yet, but I know, that they add +1 hammer to lumbermills.

are you sure you didn't get your improvement from the civics? towns get +1 production with iirc universal suffrage. or more likely: you've got a golden age because you built taj mahal
Say, can one have more than one GA?
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

Yup. As many as you want, as long as you have
        the great people for it.

Exactly, but every new Golden Age request more Great People to start, IIRC. (I've used only one Golden Age because I used others People for different target: great art work, build an accademy, add it to city output, etc... )

            Actually, no.

You need different great people for each golden age, starting from 2. Since there are only 5 types of great people, this means you can have only 4 gold ages (plus one from Taj Mahal wonder) since for the last one you need 1 of each type.

then the rule is softened up and you do not need 6 different guys but 5 different ones.

but who is going to have 2+3+4+5+6=20 Great People JUST for golden ages. i do not believe the tradeoff is worth it after 5 or 6. because you can use all people for rushing wonders, rushing research. imho the only type which is probably worth "using" for GAs later on are prophets for a) in the late game specialists probably are not needed because they are long-term investments b) all shrines are built after some time.
maybe also great artists because you might have no real use for culture bombs (except cultural victory?)

great merchants can always be used for trade missions. great scientists can create more than one academy
great engineers can rush build stuff more than once...

Rail gives +1 to mines and lumber yards, which makes sense. I'm not sure about any commerce bonuses though.

No commerce bonuses that I spotted with a railroad present... have to check again for extra hammers on the workshops and watermills tho.

                    • They changed the icon for the education tech. At one point early they showed Civ4 = $ on the chalk board. Now it's just 1+1=2 (or something, I don't remember)

I think it is great, in a nostalgic way, for all the long time players.
And there is quite a few snippets from the new version of Pirates! as well.

I think the song playing in Montezuma's background is actually "Technotitlan (spelling horribly mangled) Revealed", although it does bear a similarity to the Civ2 menu music.

I was overjoyed to hear my favourite song from Civ2, Shining Path, playing in the background when chatting with Mao. I don't think I've picked up on the Oracle music, though - mainly because the audio in my wonder movies isn't working properly...

On archipelago map before Galleon era you may have the situation where between your borders and your neighbour border is one-tile gap of ocean. Placing a culture bomb to nearest city you fill the gap with your territory. Now you can cross the sea with Galley.
This helped me to colonize few islands. BTW, they got cut off when my neighbour closed borders

... and the 'intro thing' is actually from good ol' Civ1 - you know, the text which ends with something like 'build an empire to stand the test of time'.

I'm sure. I had two identical tiles around the same city. Both trees over plains with lumbermills. One had a railroad and the other had a road. The railroaded tile had 1 more hammer than the roaded tile. Once I railroaded the other tile they were identical again.

In the case above a civics option or a golden age would have affected all tiles identically.

I'd have to check the savegame (it's MP so not terribly easy) to see but I'm pretty sure it affects villages too.
