  • 1. I got a Cavalry upgraded to Mobility.
In the quick info view it said: +751949360 Terrain Movement Cost
Seems some number is not properly initialized.

    2. I had the impression that police State would give no war unhappiness. But it still gave 4 unhappiness. The manual said -50%. The civics overview says "no war unhappiness". So probably just miscommunication in the civics screen.

    3. Changing civics does not update the costs

Yup, I got the same thing. I've reported it already here with a screenshot.

      • In the multiplayer lobby I've been having trouble with the scroll down menu. When you see the list of games in progress if I pscroll down the list the visable field automatically returns to the top of the menu 1 second later. Other then that the game works fine but this makes it difficult to see which open games are available for me to join.

        • The whole game starts to lag so heavily after a while it's not funny anymore. I hope there is a patch soon, because this is not tolerable. At first it plays fine and then it starts to give weird graphic errors and lags and lags. Only the music is playing fine all the time.

          • When I clear the cache, the game sometimes changes the name of the leader. It either uses some of the default leaders, or uses the stupid WORKGROUP as my network is named. This is very annoying - How do you do, Imperator WORKGROUP!

            • The manual says that the owner of a holy symbol gets to see every city that has that religion in it. This is not true: The only cities revealed are ones of the state religion.

I have not tested this on religions I have not founded to see if I get to see what's in those cities.

Please change this to how the manual says: If one has the holy city for a religion, they can see all cities with that religion, regardless of what the current state religion is. This would better encourage the rush to found as many religions as possible and spread them for the recon-value they provide. Otherwise spreading a non-state religion has the effect of giving a civilization more buildings for the culture war and to boost happiness.

I'm also experiencing this same sort of thing. Standard size map with continents, I'm up to ~1800's and when I end my turn there's terrible lag before the next turn starts. Often when a new technology is discovered I hear Leonard Nimoy's description before I see the window showing it. I have had all kinds of graphics errors: strange video corruption (artifacts), units disappearing and then re-appearing, but the most common one is where I'll be looking at the map and suddenly eveything disappears except the terrain (all the units, improvements, cities, etc just vanish). I'll wait for anywhere from 5-20 seconds and then everything comes back. But the most frustrating part so far has been the crashes. Hard crashes - I get a blue screen saying Windows has encountered an error and then my PC reboots. Not fun. The further into the game I get, the more frequent the crashes become. I don't know if its graphics related (because there seem to be a lot of problems around the graphics from a quick scan through this forum) or possibly a memory leak, but at first it was just annoying but now as they get more frequent it is really interfering with my enjoyment of this otherwise great game.

Just for the record, yes I did install DirectX 9 from the Civ IV CD and here are my system specs:
                AMD XP 2500
                1GB PC3200 RAM
                Asus A7N8 Deluxe
                GeForce Ti4400, 128MB video card

I realize it isn't "state of the art" but it runs everything else I have just fine. I'm waiting for my new X800GTO video card to arrive, but after seeing the problems posted with ATI cards I'm not so excited anymore.

                I hope there's a patch soon.

                • I'm playing on a huge map and can say that the lag/slowness gets much worse as the game goes on.

Just a guess but it seems to be related to the amount of the world that is known by the player. As soon as I traded for a couple of world maps circa 1850 or so...

10-15 minute load time of saved game
                  10 minutes to place grid.

10 minutes to advance to my next turn IF a foreign leader decides to approach me for a trade.

I'm tempted to stop and start over on a smaller map, but it's a damn good game and believe or not I can still sort of tolerate these waits....stupid Civilisation!

                  • I can handle the lag, it's the memory hungry crashes to the desktop while scrolling around the map on a huge\terra that kill me. The load times are pretty nuts though. After 1800 AD on a huge map I just leave the room for 5 minutes or so when loading a save game... It's more effective than preserve random seed at keeping me from repeated reloads.

                    • Alt+Tabbing out of the game and back into it causes the interface to disappear. I can scroll around and click on units fine, but no windows or menus pop up.

From there, zooming out to the globe view causes the game to crash to the desktop.

                        • Is there a cap on unit points? None of my modern armors appear to be granted > 40 attack value, even though they have signifciant bonuses (in this screenie, a base-40 MA who is fully healed, with +75% City Raider and +10% vs gunpowder, still shows as 40 ...)

Edit: The AI certainly seems (on defense) to get well over 40 points (some Mech Infs have been showing 72 or so) ...

                          • 1. Sometimes when I start a game, especially with lakes settings and +1 Civ, I get the "You have been defeated" message even befor the map shows up. Maybe the Map Generator puts my settler in a lake and it drowns?
                            2. In the manual its written that resources become available for the city if you build the appropriate modernisation. Thats not true, you must hook them up with a road.

I experienced the same behavior. It's totally annoying. In addition, I did join a game and it did freeze completely. Next morning when I did try to join another game (I'm leaving in Switzerland), thus when the majority of the americans were sleeping, this behavior was less an issue, I became to join and play a game for a while.

It seems that the GameSpy server is unable to manage a certain amount of games and players at the same time.

Same for me, it will always scroll back to the game that you have selected. The workaround is to use the arrows on the keyboard for scrolling.

I think the whole screen needs an overhaul. The icons are not self-explanatory (the statue-top means game-in-progress.. who'd have guessed that? The manual says nothing). There's no mouse-over help.
Additionally I want to know how long a game has been in progress and I want filters to single out those that are password protected or in progress. Additionally a textbox should allow you to join a certain game that you can name (if it exists, but doesn't appear on the list), or if you got kicked and like to rejoin.
Plus apart from the map type, why not also display and make sortable the map size?

I noted that too. Don't know if that is intended or not.
