  • Well, I must say that the game screen says to enter "Shift-Enter" to end the turn, but clicking on the text like I posted up above (which does work for the City Screen) just does not work on the main map screen.
Perhaps it suppose to be that way, but on the main map, I just click the little 'red' circle above my -- flag!

    • Not a bug, but an incosistency (maybe we need a topped thread for these kind of things)

Guide says that to build a winery you need to have discovered Meditation (and very apt too!!)

However, in game (and in tech chart) you actually need Monarchy

      • Civ4 and Norton Firewall

Setup: French WinXP SP2 with Norton Internet Security 2005 french edition. All updates installed. Civ4 with the now famous unpack fix.

Normal operation: when a newly installed program tries to access Internet, Norton presents a window asking whether or not to allow the program to access Internet. Clicking OK allow the program to proceed with what it needs to be doing.

With Civ4, first time going into the multiplayer menu and clicking on the LAN menu results in a program freeze. The Norton Window is behind Civ4 and clicking OK to allow Civ4 to access Internet does not unfreeze Civ4. I had to kill it with the task manager (program not responding).

After directing Norton to allow free Internet acces to Civ4, the multiplayer menu doesn't crash anymore.

I have the same issue!! hope a big patch comes soon!!
The problem is that if you have any program installed (like Alcohol 120%) then it will see that and not allow you to run the game. I found a program that will remove the registry keys that it sees and allows me to play. I have a legit copy and when I removed the keys I had no trouble starting.

However.... now that I am in the game CRASH and BURN baby!! I get the bluescreen when I try to change the resolution to anything that looks not fuzzy on my laptop. What a pain. It took me 3 hours of searching to figure out how to get it to run and now... BAMO... I still don't get to play.

              • This is completely out of control. Can anyone recall another release that had this many issues? Maybe I have just been lucky. Usually, you update a driver or video card and you are home free. This is crazy!

                • I've got another very annoying bug. Sometimes using a Great Prophet to get a technology, results in nothing at all. I don't get the technology and the Prophet dissapears. Great!

                  • I've been lucky; the game seems to runs fine for the most part on my Dell Laptop. I'm using a 64 MB GeForce FX Go5200 card with the latest release Forceware driver modded so I can use it with the "Go" chip.

I've encountered two bugs so far.

                    1) After playing for about three hours my units suddenly became invisible. The game still scrolled to each one for movement but all I could see was the numberpad overlay showing which direction the unit was permitted to move. I saved and exited to the Main Menu and reloaded the game; this seemed to fix the problem. This only has happened the one time.

                    2) The sound in the wonders cinematics skips. (I believe this has been mentioned before.)

I don't understand why people are complaining. All you have to do is open the program in a disassembler, change the code you don't like, and recompile it. What could be simpler?

Yeah, I had that happen, too. Not a huge deal at the time, but I can vouch for the issue.

Are you sure the research is just "not enough" to actually complete the tech? Several times, I hade the GP apply like 1700 points to the tech (NOT The current one I am researching), but it wasn't enough to finish it. The next time I actually chose the tech the GP put his points into, and BAM! I had it researched in just one or two turns.

                          • Hmm, maybe...but I don't think that's what the game says the GP will do. IIRC, the game says he should give me the tech the next turn.

On top of that, it was a tech that would only have taken me 2 turns to research anyway, so I should hope the GP bonus would have been enough to give it to me right away.

                            • Resources aren't being reported correctly in the tooltips for buildings when in the research screens. Almost every time when a technology says it will reveal a unit (but that unit requires a resource) the resource text is shown as red, even though I control the resource. Same with buildings that produce twice as fast with a specific resource. I think the opposite may be true: The text shows up white if the resource is not available.

On a related note, when the AI offers a trade proposal, I cannot see how much of a resource I have and if I'm giving away my only access to that resource.

This one is not quite a bug, per se, but very annoying: Some of the units do not obsolete others, although they should. Macemen are still available even when there are musketmen, cavalry, and pikemen. Technically the macemen might be effective in some cases, but for the most part it clutters up the build list. There are other cases of this, too, mostly in the later eras.

                              • One thing that may or may not be a bug:

At the end game, I wanted to build the Space Elevator wonder. However, only certain of my cities were eligible to build it. Nothing I could find would tell me why some cities could and others couldn't build it. I checked the civilopedia (which is indeed crappy) and hovered over it in the cities where I could build it, and nada. Any ideas on this?
