I don't recall if there was a unit there ever or not, as they've been there a few turns. They might be an artifact, or the game might have lost a unit there and forgotten about it :hmm:

    My mouse is hovering over that square, so the rollover text in the left-hand side is accurate for that square (gems, etc.)
    Okay, i figured out where they go There's a space a few over, with a purple banner, and no units... and a knight as its primary unit Take a look ... purple banner near center, weird unbannered horsemen on left side.

    • three things

      1st, for some mounted units, there is a description of their movement points, and at one point the label was really messed up because it showed 14233812 (some number like that) for near the movement.

      2nd, two times this happened so far, when exiting to desktop (because of #3 next) the computer reboots as if pressing reset. this has happened with other games so it's probably not a bug, although i'd like to know, what does the game do when it exits? is it shutting off that ~ed3455.tmp process?

      3rd, the worst. there's got to be a compatibility problem with geforce fx 5xxx cards. i havent seen much discussion about this on apolyton, although heres some on civfanatics:
      I just got everything installed and I have yet to get any error messages but there are definitely some problems. The Take Two intro is fine but the Firaxis intro at the beginning is jerky and the sound cuts in and out. I didn't think much of it then. I started up the game and things seemed to...

      basically the videos skip and the game gets very laggy.

      for me specifically, first it's the sound in game movies; so far the wonder movies and the intro movies ive seen, not the founding religion ones though. the video plays, the sound just stops for about a second every x seconds.

      the next thing, whenever i see the animated leaderhead art (note that this is not just in diplomacy, there's some other places in the game where that kind of art loads up from the looks of it) the game begins to lag. the animations skip, the mouse slows down, keyboard commands and mouse clicks take a few seconds to take effect and the game just gets slower (for some people apparently it caused their game to crash). at first it's a little bearable. then after a while it gets worse (if anyone played Star Trek Birth of the federation, it's the exact same kind lag)

      exiting to desktop and restarting clears this up... until it comes back. obviously, its more rampant in the later part of the game (more diplomacy), and it almost seems that the larger the map, the faster the lag creeps in.

      i have a p4 2.6 with HT, geforce mx 5200 128mb (with 81.85 drivers), on board sound (latest driver from winupdate), 2 gigs ram, win xp sp2 and directx 9.0c

      • Hmmm - problem happened again, but this time i can't see the square the flag is on (and thus don't know where the units are). This time it's Japanese; but i have full vision of that area, unless it came from behind, which sounds likely.

        • Snoopy369 -
          I notice you are running CIV in a window. If the window is 'maximized' then the mousepointer grid gets wrong...If this problem happened in a maximized screen as well, Try windows the window back to it's normal size and see if the unit fixes itself.

          Ml_4da3 -
          I've had all those crashes, as documented previously, with 1024 MB of ram, on a vanilla game. (All map conditions untouched - normal continents etc.)

          I wish it was something related to low memory or a non-standard mapsize.

          • Quick Save not working

            The manual notes that Shift+F5 invokes a quicksave - this does not seem to be working. No message is popped up in the status column (on the left, where all the Civ-related messages appear), and no file appears in the Quicksaves folder.

            CPU = Intel P4 2.8GHz Dual Core
            RAM = 2.75GB

            • Infinite barbarian spawns?

              Also, not sure if anyone has run into this game behavior:

              Level = Normal
              AI Players = 8, Random Civs
              Played as = India; China; Persia
              Rules = Default
              Map Size = Normal
              Game Length = Normal

              After about an hour into the game, my capital city becomes a barbarian magnet - they're literally crawling out of the woodwork and sieging (not unusual to see upwards of 5-6 barbarian units approaching at any given time).

              Wasn't this a Civ I bug?

              System Specs:
              As I posted in the 'Quicksave' entry above.

              • I feel kinda stupid reporting this bug as everyone here has some kind of graphical or some serious bugs...

                Anyways, I noticed a typo when your spy sabotage an enemy production. When you'r spy succeed the message you read is something like:

                "Your spy has been destroyed the production of catapult!"

                where it should be

                "Your spy has destroyed the production of catapult."

                • Borders Bug

                  I just took over the Russian City Novgorod, and the Russian borders/ culture took a big hit, but I think the borders look wrong. I think that the Niani cities borders should have expanded to take up the room the russian border used to take directly to the west of Niani... Anyone else agree?

                  • Graphics bug again - started a game, got a wierd foreigner talking to me (Thought I was back in a smax game with H'minee!)

                    (and if that's how she really looks when pleased, I'd hate to see her ticked off)

                      • Caveat: I have not read much of this thread, however:
                        I built a mine on a forested hill, not in the city radius of anywhere, because I am desparately trying to find some IRON.

                        When the mine was completed, I was told that my nearest city received the 30 shields for forest chop.

                        • Just FYI -
                          Nvidia released a Beta driver set (That solved some Call of Duty issues) on Weds. I upgraded to that Beta release. No joy. I reproduced all my main problems with them installed. (Crash to Desktop, Corrupted Earth map, stuttering opening video etc etc)

                          So the news from here is that Upgrading to Beta 81.87 Nvidia Driver (Dated 26 Oct. 2005) does not resolve my issues.

                          ----------
                          On another note (I found during testing someinteresting repeatable quirks)

                          On 1024x768 (Full screen - here and all below): 2K video runs fine. Opening Video runs staggering. Freezes for 1/3 to 1/2 a second ever 2-3 seconds. Makes me motion sick the graphics are so good (chuckle)

                          On 1280x1024: 2K video has stuttering sound. Opening video plays smoothly, but with stuttering sound (1 second drop outs every 2-3 seconds)

                          On 1600x1200: Same as 1280x1024

                            No bug. Shields from chops will go to the nearest city, even if outside the twenty tile radius. The number gained will decrease with distance though.

                            You won't find iron that way, btw. A mine has to be worked (inside radius and have labour applied to it) to be able to discover resources.

                                Approx every 20 or so minutes the game will just exit, for no obvious reason. I may click something, I may goto click something, I may do nothing, it just exits. I can't find any error messages, except for in event viewer in windows xp pro. Basically it says there was an "error" twice for the time it crashed, but cannot identify the error.

                                Now normally I'd reinstall, just incase something got lost in translation, but as it is I'm a bit afraid to, lest I can't get it working again.
                                Happens all the time to me also. I'll be adding it to my shelved collection till a patch comes out like I do to 90% of all other games.
