conmcb25: I think it's absolutely great that a number of Civers like you have basically a guaranteed hit on your hands. Frankly, if I were Sid, I'd probably go with the "If it ain't broke..." thing with Civ myself. Of course, I'd also do something very different but in the empire-builder genre and call it something other than Civ.
You're right about the use of the same engine. I couldn't stand hardly looking at the screens for Pirates2! simply because I thought they looked so darned goofy, so it's no surprise that my aesthetic scores for Civ 4 fell to the floor the first time I saw a pirate with a wig on passing as King Louie.
But it's like music, isn't it? Issues like graphics can be debated forever, and if that engine appeals to the greatest number of gamers, who am I to argue?
In the end, I'm often too fickle for my own good. It's such a rare game that I really enjoying sinking my teeth into that I'll go months and months without wanting to fire up any game CD at all. But I try all kinds of stuff. Heck, I even just played a few sessions of The Political Machine because I respect Brad Wardell's attempt to push some envelopes (direct delivery of games, etc.). Well, the Political Machine was a complete mess, but I appreciated the breathe of fresh air anyway.
So if anybody wants to label me as fastidious and prone to discounting sequels perhaps too quickly, I'm guilty as charged.

). So while I put on the negativity hat more often than not, I still hold the Civ series in high regard overall, and continue to think the franchise holds even greater promise than what we've yet seen.
