  • According to Casamassina, Wii software outsold 360 software for the month and at a rate of 10 per new wii sold (13.5m)

Pretty remarkable considering the 1.8m gap in install base.

There is clearly a tremendous amount of wii software moving below the top ten threshold.

And less remarkable considering the lower price and a lot of they are probably from the WiiPlay remote.

Includes wiiplay of course, its based on npd. doesn't include wii sports and crossbow training. If you include those, the amount of new wii games in consumer's hands is obviously quite a bit higher.

So is revenue vs sales numbers going to be your new talking point in 2008?

        • I've talked about it before 2008...the fact that you pay attention to it now is moot.

And there's no way I'm going to listen to Matt talk. I want to see a sourced, official statement either way before I take it seriously. What he says on his lame podcast is irrelevant to me.

Well, its been out a few days and hasn't been disputed anywhere.

And he is a journalist for a major website, lying about something as easily disproved as this would be a career ender. One can lie and obfuscate about a lot of things, but one can't fabricate numbers that other people can easily dispute.

            • UK sales chart for week 3 08

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ stages a Herculean comeback, jumping back into the All Formats Top 40 at No1 with renewed stock handing Sega’s Wii title its third All Formats gold medal.

It is the third different title to reach No1 so far this year, selling more than twice as much as the next title on an individual format (Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training). Activision’s multi-format ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ has to settle for a drop of one place to No2 (-19%). Half of the All Formats Top 10 is made up of games that are exclusive to Nintendo formats (DS/Wii), boosted by renewed Wii and in particular DS Lite hardware stock. The last time 5 DS/Wii exclusive games featured in the All Formats Top 10 was in week 38 2007. 85% of sales from the Top 10 Individual Format Chart (Units) are from titles only released on Nintendo formats. The brain training games both benefit, each up 4 places with the original at No4 and the sequel at No5, while ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ breaks into the All Formats Top 10 for only the third time since its launch 10 weeks ago, up from No15 to No8. Every multi-format giant in the All Formats Top 10 loses sales except ‘The Simpsons Game’ which is up one place to No3 (+9%). Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’ slips from No3 to No6, EA’s ‘FIFA 08’ drops from No2 to No7 and Activisions’s ‘Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock’ falls from No5 to No9. Sega’s light gun (Wii Zapper) game ‘Ghost Squad’ is a new entry at No20, just ahead of the official Wii Zapper bundled game ‘Link’s Crossbow Training’ which re-enters the Top 40 at No22. The only other game released this week to debut in the All Formats Top 40 is Capcom’s ‘Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure’ at No25.

One can and has made mistakes in podcasts, which are very informal. I haven't seen this claim anywhere, so go figure it hasn't been debunked

                  • The "source" has responded. Amazingly, it's made me even more skeptical:

New Videos: Fridays Noon Pacific "More Than Just Nostalgia” 8bitjoystick is a YouTube channel making videos that are both educational and entertaining about classic retro video games for a target audience of people who are curious about retro video games. It aims to build a positive community among retro gamers. There's plenty of dank, obscure, retro gaming goodness for the hardcore. He enjoys CRT TVs, coffee, and anime. Hi everyone. I understand the questions you all have. I hope you understand that it's a bit overwhelming to try and answer everything in real time. After tonight, I'm going to ask Jake (or Jacob?) to field your questions and funnel them to me for answers. Then we can do that in an organized way. But for now, I'm going to try and answer some that I thought were most important.

                    First, why the secrecy?

MS knows who I am. That's why I'm not concerned about self identifying to them in these postings with details only they would know, as some here have pointed out. The people who founded Xbox hw number 10. 1 left to go be the VP of manufacturing at Qualcomm, 1 left to go be the GM of engineering at Zune, 1 left after only 2 months in ‘99 due to conflicts with toddhol. He works on Surface now. The rest still work on Xbox. I am the only one who left the company entirely.

I am not concerned about MS knowing who I am. They are worried about me revealing their problems. Not the other way around. Plus, I have contacted every single attorney who has filed a lawsuit against MS and offered to help. Some have accepted, and that work is in progress. We'll talk about that in another post. It's very interesting, I just don't want a bunch of fan boys trying to hack my home PC (that I use for work). Harass my kids, call my house, etc.

                    Second, why now?

Well, it's not just now. I've been reaching out since before the product went into manufacturing. I left before launch. But many employees continued to contact me about the problems with the product and its launch. I did my best to help them figure out how to mitigate the problems caused my bad management decisions, and test the boxes right. Sometimes my ideas worked, sometimes they didn't. I then started to contact reporters. Sometimes it went no where. Sometimes, it resulted in a spectacular thing, like the ambush interview with toddhol just before MS admitted guilt. But still, it happened too slowly for me. That's one reason I'm doing this now.

When those articles were posted last July, I chimed in as a commentator. That's when Jake invited me for an interview. But I didn't see it then. It was only recently when I goog'ed "xboxfounder" on a whim that I found that old invite. So I contacted him to see if he was still interested. I sent him a current resume from my current work email account, and he believed me. If you guys don't, then tell me what you need to see as proof. And I will provide that.

                    Last: My motivation.

I have always been in a position to stand up for the customer. MS stopped me from doing that. They need to pay the price now. If you guys won't get together and make that happen, you have no hope for the future with them. It's not my fight, but I am here fighting. You decide what you want to do. And then do it!
He quit before launch and he decided now would be the good time to do this?

He contacted "every lawyer" who has filed a lawsuit against MS already? If so this person would be fishing for trouble for no reason, as nothing he disclosed was news and much of it was flat-out wrong or speculation, considering he doesn't even supposedly work for MS anymore. Not to mention what I said previously on MS not actually designing the Xbox innards.

I'm very curious if MS subpoenas some ISPs to get this guy's info and sues him for slander.

I'd consider someone who says the new Xbox 360s have a 10% failure rate and purports to be in a position of authority on the issue would be committing slander. By definition.

I think we can only assume that if MS doesn't make a move on this guy, then the charges must be true.
