If you're incapable of seeing a good point, it's none of my concern.

And it's not pointless. I'm hoping LOTM actually comes ready to play next time he tries to argue something in these threads. That he went on to prove my point quite valiantly with excessive spam and "but but butting" to it is icing on the cake.

You consider it insulting, I call it reality. I'm not going to be a fake two-faced person that doesn't like someone's post but pretend I do. If I see people wasting people's time, I let them know, and it's up to them to ignore it and dismiss it as an "insult", or figure out why someone thinks that way and address it.

        • Asher: That attitude is exactly what I'm talking about. A point, good or not, will not get through when the sender spits out insults and calls names to the east and west. What you need is humility and a portion of etiquette and respectful behaviour towards other people. You have loads of knowledge and often good arguments, but your tone and behaviour gets in the way all too often.

I never insulted nor called names. I called him out on his propensity to post unsubstantiated arguments with a clear lack of understanding of the basics in the discussion. You consider that an insult? If so, that's ridiculous.

You have loads of knowledge and often good arguments, but your tone and behaviour gets in the way all too often.
Again, that's not my concern. I don't need to waste my time, or yours, by pretending that I like you. I don't. It's clear, we know where eachother stands, the difference is you waste both of our time by pretending to care. It's easier if you just stop.

I strongly recommend you stop threadjacking with your personal attacks.

              • Well, there we are. You don't like me. That's too bad, I think it should be possible to disagree without hating each other. I do not like your tone and constant ridicule of all who disagree with you, frankly I think it childish and unneccessary. That does not mean I don't value you as such. You have your sides I don't like, but I see no need to dislike you as a person. I think you are much more than just your internet persona. I don't know your real you, I'd guess you're much more likeable in real life. Most people are. Truth to be told, while I dislike your discussion manners, I value your presense here. Apolyton, as much as the world as a whole, is composed of different people and that enrich us all. I just ask you to try to be a little more polite, your strenghts, like that massive knowlegde of yours, would come much more visible that way.

                    • It's not an opinion, it's clearly noise since it's not informative or even remotely related to the thread topic. Hint hint.

                      • No, you are right on that. It was an important post in the greater perspective though. I think this thread, as well as we all, would profit if you listened though. And I mean it: While I don't like your posting style, I do not dislike you as such. The time you were banned resulted in a poorer board overall.

                        • Nintendo has taken themselves out of the 'true' gamers market.

Sony knows what happens when you ditch a inferor product. People no longer trust you so you can no longer sell anything. This will stop a total MS win this console war. But if they mess up again with the PS4 they are done.

                          • Back to the topic of Wii production for a second.

I think we can all agree that the demand for the Wii is something of a surprise. No one expected sales like this.

You're right in saying the console market is one of peaks and valleys. The Wii has yet to really see a valley, however. Sales have been a stable line. Demand did not drop off after launch, as is typically the case.

So, at least for the initial months, you cannot claim Nintendo was purposely manipulating the market. This claim then becomes a matter of whether they are pushing this demand to their advantage by continuing the 'low' production.

Their contract with the manufacturers undoubtedly had some kind of min/max numbers of order per month. To increase production, they would either need to sign new manufacturers, or rework the contract with existing manufacturers.

Also, if you increase the production, you must increase your warehousing/transportation/etc. This kind of increase does involve a major commitment up front. We also do not know if any of the contracts for manufacturing promised the companies exclusive rights to produce items.

So, for Nintendo, it becomes a matter of which to invest your money in: Increasing production of the Wii, or making more games for it.

Given their sales already being beyond expectation, I personally believe, they have chosen to make more games. This, ideally, would also spurs demand for the Wii, keeping it high.

If you want to call this a PR move, I suppose I can agree to that. I don't see it as such myself.

As for this "demand". As I've said earlier, I really don't see it. I'm not seeing anyone claiming to be unable to purchase a Wii locally. I've had several opportunities to, myself, but we're not going that route. I hear far more about the inability to buy Transformers toys this year.

Not true, you can't say it hasn't had a demand valley just because supply has been low enough that it's been "consistent".

                              • True. We don't know what demand actually is.

But neither does Nintendo. Saying they should just increase production until they surpass the demand wouldn't be a smart business move in my opinion. It's already posting fabulous sales, and they have increased production recently, though "not enough" to keep them on store shelves. The problem is no one really knows what 'enough' is.
