    • I think they did, but are losing it. They can do things that players don't like and still do well for quite a while. Alot of inertia there that won't just stop on a dime no matter how many bone headed mistakes they make.

      • People were making the same points when BC came out, and the numbers just kept going up and up. The next expansion will have the same effect in my view.

        • While most of the arguements made above are about the end game which I am not yet close to, I have yet to see any major problems with the game after several months of playing.

I currently have a level 40 Druid, a level 23 Priest, and a level 7 Hunter and hope to soon add a Paladin to that list (which will give me one each of 8 professions).

I just bought the BC Expansion, and a two month game card, so I have no intention of stopping just yet

Creating an alt when you have a high level main makes more sense.
I understand what you are saying, but not sure that matches my playstyle. For the most part I refuse to level grind and for the most part, will go for completing quests and harvesting to increase professions rather then just killing mobs. I started this with my druid who I decided wouldn't just randomly kill mobs without a reason to do so and have carried it forward to the alts.

I think my logic on professions comes from when I was first looking at the game and thought I could come in and be a blacksmith, not realizing at the time that professions are meant (as you said) more as a bonus then a means in of itself. I tend to play the game to increase my professions (both primary and secondary) and have to increase levels as a result (due to level requirements of the professions).

I have yet to PvP anything, even a one on one duel so that may be another area I am missing out on, but it doesn't interest me at this time.

            • I find it fun. I like big city raids. Even if you suck, you can still get kills .

And I do suck. Though I need a pvp action bar. Because my intimidate (beast master ability that is a pet stun) is on an action bar I can't use a hot key for. I need to use that more in world pvp. It's pretty devastating. Would be even better if I had scattershot too. If I was still playing I'd respec try to get scattershot. Okay I don't suck that much. But it's hard to remember how to fight each class. And if I get hit first, it's almost impossible for me to recover from that.

professions are kinda fun to build up. Gives you something to do at least . Between my alliance and horde chars I had all professions covered, and a lot of overlaps with gathering profs.

leatherworking mentioned above isn't that great. I was trying to get 365 for the dragonscale recipes. But that's when I quit the game realizing the work I'd have to do to get from 355 to 365. Though there are alternatives. When I get my enchanter char high enough I can make a lot of money with disenchanting and just buy all the leatherworking mats. but I'm just too bored of the game right now to do that.

alchemy. my shaman is at level 66 and 355 alchemy. Best use is making health and mana pots. but there are some good spell damage buffs I use on myself as well, and a + healing pot I use for healing instances. Alchemy is pretty fun though

enchanting. most of the low level enchants really aren't that useful. my 36 mage has enchanting of 224. It's not an easy prof to level up, but rewarding at the end. But I'm told the best money is selling mats. Selling your services to annoying customers I've heard bad stories about

blacksmithing. very hard prof to level up. you need lots and lots of mining materials. but interestingly has been my best money maker in the lower levels. I think it's because they can make items that benefit several classes. There are some low level daggers that rogues especially like, the rods have been my best sellers (for enchanters), and my armor sells okay (but some won't sell at all)

jewelcrafting is especially hard to level up. but their products will sell at the AH. This should make me more money than BS, but hasn't yet. I generally can't sell my stuff for more than 1g on Alleria server. I'm around 120 jc I think. And this is on my dranei warrior, so a lot of money I make I spend on armor and weaps. So I can't keep track of how much I made jewelcrafting.

              • You forgot Engineering.

I asked a high ranked member of my alliance what an Engineer can make and they replied "trinkets and stuff". While I recognize what a trinket is, I didn't think it was worth using a profession slot on, and without knowing what the "and stuff" is, I am not about to try Engineering.

Right now my mixes are Herbalist/Alchemist, Tailor/Enchanter & Skinner/Leatherworker, which all mix together well. My next one willl be a Miner/Blacksmith which also goes together well, leaving me with an Engineer/Jewelcrafter if I plan on covering all the professions, but I recognize that those two professions don't match up so well, but I think with the other characters being gatherers, they should be able to provide enough mats for the Engineer/Jewelcrafter to work with

                • Err, you can make rocket launchers which do lots of damage and gives you 45 STA when you equip them (for example). Or rocket boots, or other such things (including a nice purple hat with meta socket and comparible stats to teir 6).

                  • don't jump too far ahead. He's a long way from 375 engineering.

Engineering isn't the most practical profession, but seeing as you are more about having fun with the game, why not try it? (assuming you have the time).

My rogue has it. As a rogue, it isn't that useful. The bombs have a stun, but as a rogue I can stun too. And my swords will do more damage than the bomb. I mainly chose it because I did not have an engineer up to this point, and goblin jumper cables are useful for rogues (and hunters) as they can escape combat in case of a wipe in a dungeon, and try to revive the healer. but I can also make guns that have agility bonus and put that in my gun slot.

Other stuff is target dummies which will distract an enemy for a short time (useful when you have an add and are facing 2 or more enemies), explosive sheep- just a funny looking bomb. . Most of the clothing items are cloth and more suited to cloth wearers, though you may find a reason to equip them even if you aren't a cloth wearer.

Eventually you specialize in goblin or gnomish engineering. goblin eng has the rocket launchers. gnomish has some interesting things- just can't remember them. I think both sides can build trinkets that will teleport you to a certain area (similar to a hearthstone) such as area 52 in the outlands or a gnomish equivalent (in blades edge mountains I believe).

and if gnomish engineering is so great, why is their pet called lil' smokey. looks kind of funny looking, he will put out a bunch of smoke I'm told. Speaking of, combat pets is also something you can make with engineering. They don't last long, but they could be useful in some situations. You can also make non combat pets such as a mechanical squirrel.

                    • I guess I'm done with this game (as I'm playing NWN2 now). Aside from my unstable internet connections, I'm getting unhappy with the jackasses in the game. Social games are great when you get a good party rolling, but they come with drawbacks when you get jackasses.

I still think if I do start this game again after the next expansion I'll do a roleplay server. Though I hear there are a lot of non role players mucking things up over there too. I'd like to think there are less gold beggers over there (though they could be begging for gold in character )

                      • I don't have a problem with Gold begging. The higher ranked members of my guild keep offering me gold so that I can buy my mount. I keep saying no as I want to do it on my own.

Seems lots of people want gold, and I feel bad when I get help with something and don't tip, but gold is hard to come by and I help people out regularly and don't expect tips, so I hope others don't either.

I once had a rogue open a lock box for me, and when he asked me why I offered him potions after he did so, I explained that I didn't have the gold to pay him and he said it upped his skill so he didn't need to get paid.

hadn't really thought about his helping me also helping him. Didn't feel so bad about not tipping after that.

                          • Not sure I understand the question, but no, I am just saving for a regular mount right now (and way short of gold for the regular one, let alone an epic mount).

I thought there were only a couple of classes that get a free regular mount @ level 40? Paladin and Warlock?

                            • that's it lock and warlock. They also get epic mounts, but those require a bit of work. I'm not exactly sure what's required for both epics. I just know my hunter helped out 2 guildies by running them through scholomance and dire maul. A 70 hunter can't exactly solo those places, but the pally healing my pet did the trick.

                              • The lock epic mount quest in Dire Maul is a pain in the butt. Look it up and know exactly what you need to do, or the folks that are helping you will have just cause to get very annoyed.

The paladin one in Stratholme is dead simple, and if you know someone with the key to get in the side door of the instance, it can be done in minutes.
