I am now level 35 with my Druid, and kinda at a standstill. I have 25 quests, most of which are either group quests or dungeon quests (that I have trouble finding a group for).
This is a design flaw in the game. Levels 30-45 are probably the worst in the game. There are a lot of quests in Stranglethorn, but on a PvP server, that place is basically a death zone for anyone under the level cap.

I don't quest much with my Guild either because of online times or level differences but I am still happy to be a part of a guild, if only to exchange information/ask questions.
Guilds don't really come into their own until the level cap. That's when you have to group to progress at all. Lower level guilds are usually small associations of friends or the creation of someone who wanted to be a guild master and spammed the hell out of newbie areas looking for members.

I've taken to hating elites, at level 35 I can easily lose to a level 28 elite and I think I should be able to take them without too much difficulty (and before you ask, yes I have now spent my talent points, all in Feral).
That's normal. Unless you are a hunter, lock or pally, you will have trouble soloing elites that are anywhere near your level. I used to solo the dragonkin in the Burning Steppes for scales when I was level 60, and they could still be a handful.

    • druids can take elites (but you really need to spend those talent points), and have up to date equipment. But it can be done with greens, you don't need blues. Aside from hunters and locks, druids are probably best at elites.

The common strategy is to open up from stealth in cat form. At 35 you are one level away from pounce. This will greatly reduce the damage you take in cat form. Open up with pounce (use ravage until you get pounce), then hit shred (must be behind the target, but you don't need to be stealthed). If you have appropiate talents in the feral tree you can feral faerie fire and get another shred in before they even come out of the pounce stun. At that point claw (maybe a rake) build up as many combo points as you can. You don't want to drop too low on health or you won't be able to heal yourself in time. You should be able to get 4 or 5 combo points. At this point use the DOT finisher (vs ferocious bite), shift to caster. If you were a tuaren you could war stomp and regrowth, and rejuv, but you'll just have to deal with the caster interuptions, unless you have appropiate talents in resto tree. Occasionally I may need to pop a potion in caster form if I can't get my heals off in time. Try to get near full health and go to bear form. It's slow in bear form, but you can usually pound them down. If necessary, shift back to caster form when low on health, heal, then back to bear.

This is viable at least till outlands. Outlands elites are generally tougher (though it varies). Even my hunter can't take some down. If they have over 35,000 hp's it's usually too much. My pet will die before I can get them down.

      • I wish I could change names on my chars. I created chars with cool names, but I have no desire to level any more. Sick to death of newbie quests.

Created a BE priest named Puta. I think it's a cool name. Wonder if the GM will make me change it. It's not a profanity, just spanish slang for whore or prostitute.

okay that one's not so great. But I really like my paladin's name of Raining Blood, but no desire to level another pally. Rogue's name is Crimsontears which I think is a really cool name (even been commented by someone else that it was a cool name). Have a shammy named Celticfrost (actually a name of a metal band). Did have an undead named megatherion (celtic frost album- couldn't fit the to in though). But as usual I hate undead. I cannot get into them.

But I'm bored of playing my high levels as well. I wish the damn subscription didn't automatically renew. I forgot to check it before sept 3rd. It's on a 3month billing cycle too. Grrrr. so I feel obligated to play to get my money's worth.

not really a design flaw, but just in how ppl work. places like STV and hillsbrad is the first zone where both factions really meet together since they have quests for both sides. ppl are more inclined to try out pvp when they are inexperienced at it (or if their opponents are inexperienced).

          • Some interesting reading in this thread.

One thing I did want to comment on was about priests. Leveling as something other than shadow is unnecessary misery.

One you reach lvl 20 (mindflay) it does start to get easier. At 24, PW:S starts to hold off more damage. At around 30+, you can kill any mob up to 2 levels higher than your level in about 20 seconds, 40+ (shadowform) this drops to around 18 seconds and around 16 seconds at 50+ (vampiric touch).

A word of advice for healing PUGs. If the group sucks, tell the group that it sucks and leave. A healer can find another group faster than a group can find a healer.

I'm also leveling a draenei priest who's at 54 currently.

Get a friend to report your name as being a new hateful slang term for African Americans. When you get the notice, explain that you had no idea, but that you'd be happy to change the name if it is offending people.

                ...
I love armory links! It has shown me how differently people put importance on things like reputation and weapon skills, and secondary skills. I like maximizing everything, so I am Exalted with all Horde, but I'm seeing that most people are not. I also raise all my weapon skills equally. Strange duck?

I don't like shadow priests. I made an undead priest just so he'd be shadow and I deleted him (mainly because I don't like undead). There are talents in the holy tree that increase damage of spells like holy fire and smite. And so far, I haven't seen much with holy damage resistance vs lots of things with shadow resistance.

maybe I'm missing something. Can't cast holy spells? That only leaves mind blast and SWP, you pick up mind flay from a talent, but what else can you cast? I don't get it.

                      • It's all about cast sequences and riding the GCD (global cooldown).

                        Mine runs like this -
                        Shield self.
Cast opener - Mind Blast or Vampiric Touch if I have it.
Then as the mob is running towards me, cast the instants - Shadow Word: Pain, Vampiric Embrace.
Then begin Mindflay, this usually only takes a couple of casts to get it down to about 20%, then wand until it's dead.
Wait until Spirit Tap expires, then move onto the next mob.

Killing them one at a time like this, I only need to drink every 7-8 mobs.

It's vitally important you spec the right talents and getting the right gear for leveling, otherwise you will be gimped for damage and spend most of your time drinking.

Your stats in order of importance are +spirit, +spelldamage, +int and +sta.

Basically any item with "Of The Owl" suffix.
(Tailor is a great profession for a priest since almost all the items you can make are +int/+spi)

Ignore all those comments from other classes about +spirit items being useless. With Spirit Tap and a high spirit, you minimize downtime (drinking).

Things change slightly once you reach outlands, but spirit is still useful.

Finally, undead make the best shadow priests since they get an extra DoT (damage over time like shadow word: pain) although it's not a very efficient spell.

Btw, what server are you on?
