  • So, people who have played these GameCube games before, let me know what you thought of them. I'm looking to pick up some of these used, since I never really gave the GC a chance (really just Metroid Prime, a kickass game) before I traded it in for the 360.

    Skies of Arcadia
    Resident Evil 4
    Paper Mario
    Eternal Darkness
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
    Fire Emblem
    Killer7
    Harvest Moon
    Baten Kaitos
    Gladius

    • It's a much more cohesive world than Hyrule, Hyrule still feels level-based
Ok, I gotta get some clarification on that one. Everything in Oblivion adjusts to your character's level (save a few rare instances), so the entire world is always at the "proper" difficulty for your character. How is this less level based than Zelda, which doesn't even have levels?
I make movies. Come check 'em out.

      • while at the mall today I stopped by the EBX (nah, no PC games that grabbed me, esp as Im in the midst of BG2, playing Turkey in EU2, never finished Joan of Arc in AOE2, or my first game of HOI, or MI4) Someone was playing fly fishing on the Wii. It looked fun actually, though not the kinda killer app id buy the thing for.

        • I agree from what I've read. It looks fun but you are better off popping around to your mates' houses and playing theirs, and spending your cash on PC games.

I'm not talking about character levels. I'm talking about the fact that it's level-based in terms of it being very linear and "you have to do this before you do this" the whole way through. It reminds me of all of the old school RPGs where it was so linear.

And RPGs should not be linear...it takes away from the "role playing" aspect.

              • Who would ever claim that Zelda: TP is a RPG? Its straight up action-adventure with no more "role-playing" than most or all fps or mario games.

RE4 is pretty uninspiring. Walk, shoot a lot, walk, shoot, upgrade guns...Not really scary, just frustrating. You need to constantly run away to get distance and then aim for the villager's heads. Tedious.

I played Killer7 for a little bit. Seems like someting you play for the story, since gameplay is so simple. (point and shoot on rails)

                  • I actually liked RE4 quite a bit, and this is from someone who wasn't a particular fan of the other ones. Paper Mario is excellent, as is Fire Emblem (if you liked TBS, that is). Baten Kaitos never really grabbed me, though I've heard good things about the second one. Eternal Darkness is fun and creepy, but I got stuck in it

He said he would get one for x-mas, despite his misgivings, and I was curious if that came to pass and if he had first hand knowledge of the gimmicky console.

Erm, oblivion is pure hack 'n slash. Zelda you actually have to mix up your technique against different enemies.

That's funny, since Zelda isn't an RPG.

                                Metroid Prime is indeed great.

Good shooter. If you like shooting possessed human's heads off, shotgunning monsters, and then shooting some more things, I recommend it. Also good if you like camp - the plot they try to insert is a B (or C, or D...) movie, complete with crappy, laughable script. Also one of the prettier things you'll see from a Gamecube disc, though you shouldn't be getting a Gamecube or Wii if graphics is what you're concerned with. Certainly worth it if prices are still dirt cheap; I recall seeing it $20 new. Though if you require a believable, actual plot, you may end up having Wiglaf's complaint... and, again, not recommended if you don't like shooting things. Also not recommended if you're actually trying to get scared. It may make you jumpy, but it will not actually scare you.

Very good game. Good platforming, and an excellent sense of style that was somewhat lacking from its sequels. Combat gets a bit repetitive, but that doesn't stop it from being a good pick.
