  • well i find it a good size, there is a lot of travleling around and it takes time to traverse those distances, i havnet explored the wwhole map yet.

once i get rid of the vampoire curse and can spend more time in daylight and less biting people i might jsut explore more.

    • Actually, being a vampire doesn't bother me at all. As long as you don't sleep, you'll never get a dream so you can keep the vampirism under control. And if you're in a city, there's always plenty of fellow guild members to bite

        • Damn, reading all of these threads has me super psyched for the gmae. Too bad my computer has an 8mb video card .

Hopefully I'll be upgrading to a super awesome (at the time of purchase) laptop in six months or so.

Even though I can't play, I can still dream, and I'm wondering... what is the best race to play as a thief? I think it was Khajiit (think of a real life furry) in Morrowind.

          • dont sweat - quite a few people(mostly TES veterans) have declared Oblivion dull and shallow(so far even with the mods) and like me have gone back to Morrowind or the older games(Arena and Daggerfall).

Oblivion is an ok game - but a poor rpg imho. I just had to unistall it after a few weeks, which is a pretty bad indicator. It would seem it has been all about the hype. Hopefuly in a few months(years?) it will be worth re-visiting?

I can't explain better how dissapointing i found this game. I had been expecting the best rpg game ever and all i found was the "BESTEST RPG GaMe EVaR!", so far as i can tell its been all about the hype+the graphics. So definately not worth spending hundreds of bucks on to upgrade your pc etc.

So your lucky, just be more patient and it might be able to become a good TES rpg given some more time for the modders+patches to fix it.

Did you try Morrowind with many mods? That might be a good thing to do in the meantime.

Or if your feeling brave, try out some of the Older games. Arena is now a free download and you can get a demo of Daggerfall from here:

just scroll down past the game descriptions to get to the downloads, then ask away in the past game forum when you get problems running these old games

            • I really like the game, but it definately needs some work.

It feels so...vacant in the outside world. Just the occassional deer and random enemy.

I want more friendly, huntable and non huntable wildlife-rabbits, buffalo, elephants.

What about some actual water life beyond mud crabs and slaughterfish? regular fish that would be non-interactive like grass, kelp? Surely there should be something else in the water? Alligators, hippos.

Birds. where are the birds? at most you get imps and the occasional butterfly.

and that's just eye candy ish content I want.

              What about-
              unarmored skill
ability to poison your fists, or brass knuckles, something to help the hand to hand.
need to make speechcraft and mercantile more uselful/faster to level.
more guilds-how about a merchant guild, you already do a couple merchant things-Umbacano, etc, slap another 8 missions on and your'e set.

and that's just off the top of my head, I'm sure I could think of more.

The mod that has enhanced the game for me the most is the mod that makes plant ingredients disappear after picked. That saves me a lot of time clicking early on when I'm an ingredient scavenger.

I unistalled it too, and for now it will remain unistalled. I think it was a bit dissapointing for many TES fans because how much we were expecting based in the other TES. We were expecting something really excepcional as Morrowind and Daggerfall were in his day.

However, compared with latest RPGs this game is obviously the best and deserves at least a try IMO.

                • I still have it installed, I may give it another run when the german localization is patched - whenever that is. If, however, I need to remove a game in order to install NWN2, Oblivion is certainly a hot candidate.

I don't know, if I was deciding between vacant and too many f***ing Cliff Racers, I think I might prefer vacant.

Indeed... and I think the complaints about vacant outdoors is a case of a game being too good that it naturally makes people want more. Oblivion has SUCH a large outdoor gameworld that people expect it to have more wildlife. Kind of a no win situation for Bethesda (the framerates are already pretty bad outdoors).

well wolves are nearly as annoying in OB, atleast for the first few levels of your char. Which is over pretty quick actualy, so they are only really annoying for about 1 hour of game time give or take a bit. After level 3-4 you have easily enough everything to not worry about them so much. Still they do still keep chasing you all the time, from town to town.

And with my current modded MW, i've only found 1 cliff racer so far.

If you like the idea of MW as an FPS then OB is the game for you.

If you want a deep challanging rpg then look elsewhere and save your money imho.

                        • I still don't get the OB-FPS comparison. Although the OB combat is much more action-like.

Still... as far as the RPG aspects go, OB doesn't lack any that MW had. MW also had very unusual roleplaying - you were free to do anything in the world, instead of having to follow a story, a path or anything. OB is the same that way. The skill system in OB is remarkably similar to MW, only with OB skills giving special abilities as your skill rises.

However, Oblivion has more in-depth quests (not perfect, but better), and a much more lively world than Morrowind. I think that just having NPCs go on about their lives instead of standing around is worth it.

I agree about the game needing more stuff in the wide outside areas - wildlife, something. I'm sure there will be a mod to do it. Non-aggressive wildlife that just goes around and does its stuff. Morrowind had a mod like that, it sure made the world better.

Neither do I, except it sounds 'cool'. IMO, its an utterly asinine statement. It makes me wonder if those people think Deus Ex (the first one) was an FPS, because OB is FAR more of an in depth RPG.

Or they are just nostaglic for the "in depth" roleplaying of their dice and table games and any RPG that tries to use a first person view is wrong by definiton?

If OB isn't a 'deep challenging RPG' then neither was Morrowind, AFAIC.

Morrowind, the game you can beat in like 3 hours..
