  • I read this story in the official forums about a guy who went and killed someone in a cave... and found out he actually murdered him. So the guy reloaded, and found out the other dude in the cave was another adventurer. But I don't think he was running around looting .

No, at least not as much as they should.

Mercantile allows you to sell stuff for more $$, meaning you get better weapons/armor/spells.
Spells maybe, but then, there's enough money in the game, so that the devs had to add rather silly drains like horses (how useless are they??) and houses. The perhaps 10% more you get or pay don't really knack it, you can't spamcast more than 1 or at most 2 offensive spells anyway. What concerns armor and weapons, so far I never bought it. I either received it as quest reward or looted it. Another viable source is to create it yourself.

Speechcraft allows you to find out more informaion, meaning you can more easily achieve quests.
This is supposed to help you in combat how? Oh btw, if you have some patience in the minigame, you can get pretty much everyone into the 70's even with speechcraft 5.

Sneak allows you to backstab for 6x damage.
Yes, but then sneak is not exactly a non-combat skill. A heavy armored adventurer fights straightforward, a light armored sneaks, snipes and finishes melee. But against the really tough encounters this is not going to help, as they have plenty hitpoints and the bonus you get for that ONE surprise shot doesn't help that much. trust me, I play a sneak.

Perhaps some of the skills should be more powerful, but ... you don't have to take them as major skills Honestly, I'd rather not have most of the combat skills as major skills anyway. Level too fast that way
I think that is the key - DON'T take combat skills as major skills.

      • Another word about sneaking... on the forums I read, that with a really high score in it (100 + magic) you can step back into the shadows after you sneak attacked - like hide on plain sight in NWN. That'd be probably the point where it MIGHT become useful, even though I doubt that you can fool the really tough guys with it.

I've spotted this 'adventurer' in a dungeon somewhere. I figured he was another Vampire so I let him have it. But nope, the killing was obesrved by forces unknown. Great.

Kill ghosts. They are sometimes in the Elf ruins. Check all the alchemy merchants. Thats all I can think of.

            • The difference in doing Kvatch at level 2 instead of 12-20 is that all your 'help' survives through the whole ordeal instead of dying at the first conflict...

              • You can find some ghosts inside some kind of crypt or something that you can find to the south/south-west of the priory.

                • Also on the ghosts if you 'break-in' to the underlofts of churches you can find ghosts there, or at least I have.

                  • haven't broken into any place yet. I'm so used to finding those things in tombs like in Morrowind.

What's the benefit of closing Oblivion gates? I closed another one tonight, and stumbled upon a 4th. I'm getting kind of tired of closing them. I have these sigil stones in my inventory, I'm not sure what they are used for

You can use the stones to make magic items on the fly. Each stone has two possibilities, one if it is on a weapon and another if it is on armor/jewlery. Just click on one of them and it will bring up an item creation menu.

                        • I think the magnitude of what they can do depends on what your level was when you got the stone. Usually each one can do something different, if you have a stone with powers you don't want or won't use then there probably isn't any reason to hang on to it. However in that case I would still use the stone to create a magic item on something you intend to sell as it will increae its value and the stones themselves are not worth any gold.

                          • The stones are simple really. If I had used a wearable item instead of a weapon it would give a constant effect of light instead.

                            • Can everyone create those custom items, or do you have to be in a guild of some sorts or do a quest to be able?

                              • ah, cool, I will have to use mine though...

I need a two handed sword, I think there was a katana in the blade place.. but I don't like stealing (maybe I will jsut use the onehanded one they gav eme)
