    I didn't forget that - I ignored it.

    • Who would've thunk that?

Btw Spikie, I've been playing WoW for a good part of last weekend without having my penis falling off. I was quite surprised. I digged out my level 2 whom I had ditched on the first try and got him to level 12. I even had something like fun sometimes. It was dirt easy though, much easier than any MMOG I played so far. Equal leveled mobs hit for about half of what I did with mere autoattack, and I wasn't even a meleer (shaman). Basically, autoattack was a "I win" button most of the time, the only thing which could happen after that was to be biten in the butt by a roamer. I hope it's getting more challenging later, but I don't hold my breath.

Oh and related to the current discussion, I even crafted (it's World of Warcraft after all). Herbology and alchemy ftw. The potions were even somewhat useful.

Of course I had the chat channels turned off and ignored the scores of people who would yell "duel" at me. If I had planned to PvP, I would have chosen a PvP server, but the server I chose says clearly PvE RP. Duh.

      • It's fun early on. After that I found 40-60 quite dull, then the game really picks up again when you get to the 5 man instances, and after that the raids.

        • Are some of the earlier pages worth reading or did you two ruin them all with your gobbedlygook?

          • Little from column A, a little from column B.

They do occasionally discuss NWN, but you have to look for those posts.

            • Our (well mine anyway, and some of Ralph's) opinions are solid gold, no matter what the game. I would suggest you read them all.

              • But warcraft sucks, and by extension World of Warcraft sucks.

                  • I did the second page of the Codex quest on Folderol this evening. I chose to side with the ghost of Sir Branston, god knows why, and he lasted about 6 seconds against the demon. I lasted about 4.
Fortunately, I thought on my feet and made myself invisible before returning to loot the goblet from his dead body, and escaped before the demon could kill me again. Even so, I'd have thought he'd have been somewhat more of a match for the demon.
The last time I did this, I could have just stood there while he thrashed the demon, but this time was annoyingly different.

                    • I wonder if they did make him harder. If memory serves right, I killed him on the second run when I did the quest with my ranger. At the first time he pwnd me pretty clearly, after this I was smarter and, being a hunter, took a more sneaky approach. Good thing is, that he doesn't regen (at least that's what I remember), so I could kill him in rates. In the end of the day I was glad, that I had cleaned the mess I had made myself by spawning that monster.

Oh and a word about WoW (sorry, off-topic again): It's not a bad game. It is by its mechanics even a little bit like the original EQ. Also by its graphics; simplistic characters with a small number of polygons to draw. I like, that it has a lot of towns and outposts, as opposed to only 2 starting cities in EQ2 (a third being added next xp, meh, big deal). That makes it feel like a living world. The quest system is sound and takes you through the game quite nicely. However, if looking at it, it did the MMOG community a disservice though. It lowered the bar wee bit too much. Every idiot can play it successfully, and that may explain, why it is packed with them. And now these people strive to drag every other MMOG down to their level. This is sad for people, who want to play games a bit more challenging, with an actual community and not just a bunch of individualists.

                      • By challenging though, I think (from your previous posts) you mean less solo content, not content requiring more skill to beat. Perhaps you also mean slower levelling. It's a fair viewpoint, but the reason WoW has gone in the direction it has is that most people don't like slow level grinds, and most people don't like the 'challenge' of spamming LFG every night just to get anything done.

I think that, like with your criticisms of GW, the criticisms are that the games are not want you want them to be, rather than that they fail to acheive the goals they have for themselves.

The one element of 'challenge' you will bring up that I have a lot of sympathy with is death penalties. I played CoH for a while, where there was xp debt upon defeats. This wasn't annoyingly tough (maybe 1 hour of play to clear the debt) but tough enough to make you really weigh up the risks and rewards of aggroing certain groups.

                        • Edit: Screw that, I PM that Spikie.

Edit2: That sucker's mailbox is full!

On topic... Neverwinter Nights... yea, Neverwinter Nights... Wizards are overpowered... and Rouges are teh pwn.

                            • Bien sur que oui! Et des rouges sont quoi exactement?

Death penalties are worthwhile. Otherwise you can take a low-level character against the hardest boss in the game and just wear him down, by reappearing each time you're killed.
