as usual with RPGs, Im lost on character creation. I went for a young noble, and focused on strength and swordsmanship/melee type skills.

Ive gone to Zendar and am doing the training stuff. I think im getting the hang of the combat - Ive never played an action game other than HL, not all those fighters and stuff, so its pretty novel for me. The first person stuff, though I gather thats standard on RPGs now, is disorienting for me, having played only Inf Eng RPGs.

You cant buy a drink in the tavern,it seems. Figuring it which weapons are best seems harder than in Infinity Engine games.

        Heres a hint: Bows

A bigger hint: Bows and arrows and arrows and arrows

I didnt mean so much which type of weapons - I mean its that better weapons arent labeled "Plus one sword" you have to actually look at the stats and figure it out.

I bet you loved Might and Magic then

              "Wood sword"
              "Glass sword"
              "Rusty Iron Sword"
              ...
              "Adamantium sword"
              "Obsidian Sword"

                you mean nuclear hand cannons?

                Bows are outrageously overpowered.

Actually, there is a mod that adds guns to the game. They are overpowered! They also make you feel bad when you still manage to get overrun by a rampaging horde.

the thing is though, I go to Zendar, and theres a training guy. But all the training is in fighting melee, on foot. Im actually getting (I think) half decent at that. Then I go to the arena, and Im expected to fight with the bow, mounted, and Im totally Pawned.

Practice your bow skill on the low-level mobs near Zendar solo. I can't give too much specific advice on the arena though - I have only tried it once or twice.

the sea raiders? I cant seem to find the promised river bandits.

I need to DL this again, hope I can find my purchase codes.

The river bandits are there, stay near the river around the city.

                          ACK!

                            1. My big problem fighting mounted is that I dont have the knack of riding in battle, I tend to go to fast, too far, and then get all flumoxed turning around.

                            2. In my last couple of battles Ive won either cause of allies, or my party. Ive finally figured out how to dismiss my party, but havent found a solo battle yet.

                            3. I take it I dont have to stop to rest or eat? Nothing for sale at the tavern?

                            4. I find the pirsnicketyness about how I have to face to talk to someone or leave an area rather annoying. Im in a castle now, where I cant seem to leave, and I think its cause of that.

                            5. Where do I sell things (stuff, not slaves)? It seems like the smiths in Zendar only sell, not buy.

                            6. The castle was thoroughly empty, except for one guard, who had nothing to say.

                            7. At the tavern I can go upstairs, and find a room with beds, but theres no one there, and I cant lie down.

                            Am I missing something?

                              1. Then don't. I generally find a nice defensive area, hop off my horse and then fill the enemies with arrows.

                              2. If you fight without allies, its a solo battle. You will always be fighting against multiple enemies. The thing is, it isn't too hard to kill 7 sea raiders with your bow and nothing else.

                              3. Food is automatically eaten if it is in your food slot in the inventory. No sleeping except at taverns to make night become day for trading purposes.

                              4. Go to the edge of the map? Tab? There are a few ways out of maps, but its been a while.

                              5. Most towns have a trader who buys everything, and armor / weapon smiths who buy everything also. You just need to find them, and they only trade during the day.

                              6. Work in progress. Two years ago the castle wasn't even a location you could go to.

                              7. Thats right. Talk to the person downstairs to rent a room, or hire more people for your party.
