FG: Galactic Overlord 8, Part 5

  • How about getting rid of base-trading, getting rid of multiple OoBs, and implementing 100% attrition. No bases - you lose everything. This has the same effect in practice as giving the defender a modifier - the wise attacker will leave ships behind. There, the game would be simplifed and balanced.

    • Then you better as well flush out allied attacks. At least a defending player knows then he has a fair chance to repel one of the attackers.

      But it will indeed give attacking players a real incentive to stay home with a significant chunk of their fleet.

      • If you remove multiple OoBs, you remove a lot of the strategy from the game. They need to stay, otherwise warfare is reduced from strategy and planning to just luck, which is not optimal.

          Don't be silly. If people are only attacking with 50% fleets, they need an ally to get their numbers up. If you are attacked by three allies you shouldn't have a hope in hell anyway.

                      Multiple OOBs are *necessary* regardless of anything else. Getting rid of base trading I no longer care much about.

                      100% attrition, no, don't like it.
                      I think this is more likely to encourage people to not leave *anything* behind, or no more than a frigate screen; you can't afford to lose on attack. And allied attacks are pretty much the way of the world anyway. There's too much down on the defense now as it is - the fact that you can take your fleet out on attack to defend it in a sense from people attacking you is all you have anyway, to prevent a couple of teams of 3 from just smashing everything else up ...

                              • Just remove shields all together and you'll see a endless stream of attacks.

                                Shields are what prevents attacks, Disengrage are what prevents attacks from killing people.

                                Just take out shields and one can add tons of defense options like "intercept" and there'd be BIG BATTLEZ every turn.
