I've tried the tutorial. It's nothing new and revolutioning really.

The general hope at totalwar.org is that the full version will not be like the demo.
That would indeed be a shame.

Why dont you try the demo yourself?
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

            This game looks amazing.

I'm very intrigued by the demo and what I see at the website.

I played Shogun, but none of the others.

The MP will be battles only I suspect, like the other games.

It took me 7 min or so to download the demo. The tutorial takes 20 min (I didnt time it) and the battlle seems to take 5 (so its probably 25 with pauses). So if you dont have broadband it may not be worth it except to test out machine specs before buying it.

I had a chance to play around with the demo a little more. Those flashes are back but it only seems to happen right at the beginning of the battle. It goes away though. Not sure why.

I'm definately going to get this game though. I tried very hard and I couldn't win. I wasn't pausing much though and the elephants definately went crazy punching through my lines.

The graphics are quite nice and I really enjoy pausing and zooming in on the action. I tried it at the highest settings and had no slow down which is quite promising.

I think I'll try out some of the mods out there to try different units.

Hmm... quite a few mods out there. Anyone played any of them?

Ok, so I haven't been paying attention to new games coming out for a while. But now that I'm making actual money again (working in politics and as a public school teacher... both of which pay crap during the summer ) and I'm getting really bored of playing through the same old games over and over, I'm looking for something new.

This game immediately popped to the top of the list of ones I was looking at.

But I want to know whether it's worth it and whether it will run at all decently on my system (1.33 Ghz Athlon Thunderbird processor, GeForce4 video card, 512 MB RAM).

Do any of those download locations for the demo still work and where should I go for it?

For those of you who have been paying A LOT more attention to this game's development and press or have actually played the other two games in the "Total War" series; I'd love to hear your take on this game.

From Shogun and MTW and some knowledge of your taste in games, I conclude you would like it quite a lot.

How much memory on the video card? If it's 128MB, you should be ok as long as you keep the game resolution at 800x600. The CPU may hurt you though. Best bet is to try the demo....

                              Demo site:

                              Pretty decent preview:

I played STW and MTW and their expansions. I'm also really really biased because I've always been a Roman history buff. The campaign map looks like it will be an incredible improvement over the prior games. Diplomacy FINALLY has some meat to it, not just yes/no to declare war. There are trade agreements, passage agreements, etc. There's a family tree interface to control your generals/heirs. Lots of good stuff.

My only reservation is waiting to see how the battles play out in the full game. The demo is designed to be fast paced, and pretty easy to win as the Carthaginians vs. the Romans. The battle included is Trebia, and it seems to end before you even get started. I think this has more to do with the setup than the engine, but others (on other forums) appear to think otherwise.

Definite must buy for me, but again, I'm slightly biased.

Heh. Within 12 hours of deciding that I've gotten bored of my current computer games and posting above in this thread about looking at this game to help pass the time, I get a phone call offering me a new and higher paying political campaign job.

So much for having TONS of free time.

I should try this method again in the future... need a new job, start looking around for computer games. You never know... there might be some cosmic connection between these things or something.
