September 22 is the US ship date according to ebgames; they are usually pretty accurate.

Big deal - how often have you played a historical battle from STW or MTW? What I care about is the campaign game, and the tutorial demonstrates quite well how far apart the armies will begin a battle in the campaign game. Plenty of room for manuever prior to combat. Should be delicious.

            Now back to waiting.......
Actually, with STW and MTW I mostly played the historical battles, they were quick and fun & I could never get into the turn-based metagame. For TBS fun I play CivIII or SMAC.

That was bloody fun. I, as Hannibal, just trounced the Romans. There's a certain satisfaction I get out of kicking some ass in a Total War battle that I don't get out of any other game.

                That would be Civ4

I don't mind the wait. I'll need that time to find, buy and install a new videocard

The demo actually runs smoothly on the default settings on my crappy MX440, but it can't handle much higher settings than that. Although the game on default settings still look pretty nice (especially compared to S:TW, the last game in the series I played ), it doesn't look nearly as good as most of the screenshots I've seen

The one thing I'm slightly disappointed about is that the demo doesn't include a sneak-peak of the campaign game (though the Flash presentation includes some nice screenshots). I've heard very little about it so far but what I have heard sounds incredibly fun...

it's weird but it just looks butt ugly on my computer, I've got a geforce 4 4200 and on default settings it still lags a bit, especially when zooming in/out and scrolling fast.
And the gfx of the troops blink when I zoom in/out which is really annoying, also a lot of aliasing.

And most of the times my troops didn't do what I told them to do. I click to attack, they cry 'moving out' or something, and then they remain standing still. Also Those elephants seem a bit overpowered. They were nowhere near that effective in ancient times, and there were some very effective ways of disabling or countering elephants, just like chariots were utterly useless versus Romans.

I guess it's still a strategy game and not as realistic as I would have hoped. Btw in early and middle republic times the hastati and principes were armed more or less like greek hoplites

PS: It's a nice game tho

my computer is not brand new, but it's not obsolete yet okay.
but there has to be something wrong (and I don't know what). I can only get a maximum fps of 60 in games like sof1, which was released early 2000! UT1, when I play it lags like hell too!

                            gef4 4200, amd 2100+, 512 mb ddram (400mhz), abit nf7 mobo..
it's freaking me out, especially when crappy old games run like a slug on my puter

                                for those with ati cards

You may encounter weird strobe lights when the arrows are fired in the battle. If so turn up all the video controls to highest and they disappear.
