So how do you like it SpencerH? Something to pull you away from civ no doubt.

I liked the demo. I really need to go back and play some more. Apparently there are mods out there to allow you to play the Romans or Barbarians.

I had that flashing issue with the arrows. What fixed it for me was updating my sound drivers.

but there has to be something wrong (and I don't know what). I can only get a maximum fps of 60 in games like sof1, which was released early 2000! UT1, when I play it lags like hell too!

        gef4 4200, amd 2100+, 512 mb ddram (400mhz), abit nf7 mobo..
it's freaking me out, especially when crappy old games run like a slug on my puter
Update your drivers, and motherboard drivers as well. Then reinstall DirectX9.0b.

You may encounter weird strobe lights when the arrows are fired in the battle. If so turn up all the video controls to highest and they disappear.
I'll have to try this, but what if my card can't handle the settings all at their highest?

And speaking of SpencerH, it's always weird when I see apolytoners at other forums.

Why do I get the feeling that this battle will NOT run smoothly on my computer:

Well that doesnt take a lot these days I've pretty much finished my mod (v1.3) but after playing two games while working out the bugs I cant be bothered to play a third.

I'm not thrilled with the demo. It certainly looks like they've moved the tactical parts of the games toward RTS. Hopefully, the demo is an abberation in that respect but if not, I'm sure there will be mods for the players with slow fingers who prefer the old style battles with more unit control.
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Didnt you recently buy a new PC?

It is weird. I knew SirOsis is there and now Stuie. There is a Michael the Great, but I dont know for sure if it is the same as our MtG.

The battlefield component was always RTS.

No... it's a year old. It is double all the minimum specs, but probably not enough horse power for some of those REALLY big battle scenes that have been popping up in screenshots.

I actually registered at the org a month before I finally stopped lurking and registered at poly. Of course I have 1456 less posts there...

I dunno, they're saying the demo is playable with min specs (and even below). Granted that isnt a big battle but I'm looking forward to giving it a try with P4 2.8 HT 800MHz FSB, 512 Mb RAM, Radeon 9800 128.

Yeah I stopped lurking when I (finally) bought MtW.

Not in the same way as warcraft or AoE.

And it is now? I haven't played it. As long as they still have the morale type system and intricate formation and counter systems I'm happy. I can't believe they have taken those out (though morale was toned down in MTW as compared to Shoggy).

I haven't tried it though, so correct me before I buy if I am wrong please.

i've updated my drivers already, it's all just the same. actually the newest nvidia drivers screw up my system; lots of crashes, so I installed the old ones again

The demo is not like AOE but it's clearly not a new improved MTW either. Morale is still a factor but no one knows how much. Everything that made Shogun and MTW seperate from other games have been 'dumbed down' in the demo i.e. moving toward AOE type of simplified control and away from the chess-like deliberations of the earlier games. The general hope at totalwar.org is that the full version will not be like the demo.

Ah, but MTW was a "dumbed down" version of STW according to most "fans" (when it was released).

I think we need the full version prior to passing judgement.
