DAMN! I just discovered that because of the -1 Research I (the Hive) am running due to Unitary Police State, I can't accumulate research yet. Previously I thought it were only faction-inherent research penalties that caused the penalty of not being able to research in the first couple years.

A positive effect of this is though that the Conclave/Believers don't have their penalty anymore. Technocrat evens out their inherent research penalty. Since the Conclave is usually considered a weak faction, this is

A negative effect is though that the Drones also don't get the penalty anymore. And they could use this penalty, as they already are too powerful as is. Do you guys think increasing the Drone research penalty to -3 would be a good thing for a SMAniaC update?

Wow, seems like Planet doesn't like my Gaian ministrations...

I guess this Planet penalty strikes Gaians and Cult most severely...

GeoModder was referring to something else, but yeah that - 1 Planet can be annoying for the Gaians in the real early game. But on the plus side: it's only two techs to b-line to Centauri Empathy and a Green society, and other factions can't profit from fungal boni when they're running frontier society.
