Sorry --- yes I'll keep Neuvirth -- omission on my list -- Last year I got burned in this league when Anderson both sucked and got injured and with 14 teams, goalies were at a real premium. I picked up Lundeqvist mid-season (in a trade where I had to give a lot) and Khabibulin was a discard from the manager I traded 8 guys to-- in order to get Bobby Ryan--

I know Neuvirth might be a platoon at best and is most likely a back-up behind Vokuun at the outset but to me he is too young and too good to not think he's worth the 8th spot on my team since I traded away most other possibles (Back in March there was no thought of a big goalie signing for the Caps that would move Neuvirth down the depth chart-- I never thought they would have the cap space!! --

There will be interesting goalie decisions though ( a guy picked up Nabokov and still holds his rights for instance) and there are some guys in pretty bad shape in net who may be desperate-- Personally I am hoping for some good players to be available and I will be curious if some of the depth I traded away ( Laich and Zajac) end up being "keepers" for someone

I know if any real good goalies are avaialble (ie a #1 guy for pretty much anyone) I might look at using my first pick-- I don't expect that as I am assuming everyone will be protecting at least 2 goalies so more likely I will just be monitoring the backups since I think another 20-30 start guy would be very welcome as a regular in my lineup

Looking at old drafts is a hoot-- Tim THomas went in the 14th round last year (very old guy after a mediocre season and backing up a very good Rask LOL)

    • In a keeper I had Rask and drafted Thomas with my fourth pick. He was low milage and you never know with goalies.

I'm going to have to keep them both this year, but we are slowly expanding the number of keepers.

NICE !!! How deep is your league? I believe both Rask and Miller went very early last year in mine but Thomas was available pretty late (round 14 of 25). I guess this year our draft will be 17 rounds (with 8 keepers).

Do you play at yahoo or elsewhere ?

I know for myself I don't intend to play the apolyton leagues this year and instead will focus on this very active keeper and I will try to find one more active keeper type league (In my league last year of 14 managers, only ONE had not made a trade and the two top finishers made 5 and 6 respectively.

I enjoyed the activity. I ENJOYED that I could hear that Henrik freakiing Karlson was getting the start over Kipper tonmorrow and find that someone else had scooped him already . More than half the gang average 4 moves or more a week., I found it way way more fun to be in an active league.

I will poke my head in sometimes to banter though-- I really think the Oil will turn a corner this year and will probably be on par with the Flames in the almost a playoff contender group. It could be worse if their goaltending fails them.

Canucks?? Again should be a fearsome team but I still don't believe in them for a playoff run which is a freakishly weird thing to say abouta team that lost in the SCF. They have this unique ability I guess. Ditto Luongo . . . . I think it is unprecedented that such a deep playoff run has created more questions about a goalie but the dude is scarily inconsistent. Ben can trumpet his overall numbers all he wants but I bet that if the Canucks could trade Luongo straight up for a Rinne, Miller, Price, Thomas thery would and they would be sorely tempted by a list of about 8 more.

Habs? I live in hope that some of their moves pan out and they end up withy some of the size they so badly needed.

Leafs? They may actually start to turn things around if Reimer is the answer in goal. I still don't think they are at all a good team but perhaps they might find a way to squeeze in the playoffs. A team headed by Phaneuf is a scary thing thouigh as I saw his potential and also saw the results of his attitude. It will be interesting to see how he grows into his role

            • It was at Yahoo with a bunch of hard core Oilers fans. The managers were very active for the most part, although not many trades. We also use the max moves (45 per season). We have an easy time recruiting for people who let us down. Last year was the fourth season.

10 keepers, 25 player rosters using a lot of the available stats. This year it goes to 12 keepers, IIRC. I'll keep Miller, Rask, and Thomas.

These were the roster and scoring settings.
              Roster Positions:

              C, C, C, C, LW, LW, LW, RW, RW, RW, W, D, D, D, D, D, Util, G, G, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, IR

              Forwards/Defensemen Stat Categories:

Goals (G), Assists (A), Points (P), Plus/Minus (+/-), Penalty Minutes (PIM), Powerplay Goals (PPG), Powerplay Assists (PPA), Shorthanded Goals (SHG), Shorthanded Assists (SHA), Game-Winning Goals (GWG), Shots on Goal (SOG), Shooting Percentage (SH%), Faceoffs Won (FW)

              Goaltenders Stat Categories:

Games Started (GS), Wins (W), Losses (L), Goals Against (GA), Goals Against Average (GAA), Saves (SV), Save Percentage (SV%), Shutouts (SHO)

It looks to me like the Oilers are heading for a 9th to 14th or 15th place season (conference). Young players do not turn a team around on a dime normally, and the goaltending and defence have a lot of questions.

                • Wow, that is a lot of keepers. I'd probably rather have fewer keepers (and thus more ability to recover year to year from a bad draft), but to each his own. Incredibly deep rosters as well - even just 10 managers would mean you're using 250 players, or 8 players per team, so you're into the third lines of many teams...

                  • CTV Vancouver reported on Monday night that former Vancouver Canucks forward Rick Rypien has been found dead in his home.

                    Rypien was 27.

The six-year NHL veteran played in only nine games with the Canucks last season before leaving the team for personal reasons and eventually being put on injured reserve.

Rypien was loaned to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL late in the season for conditioning, and signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Winnipeg Jets this off-season.

The Coleman, Alberta native had 16 points and 226 penalty minutes in 119 career regular season games, all with the Canucks.

This is the second death of an NHL player in the last three months. Former Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers tough guy Derek Boogaard died in May because of a fatal mix of alcohol and oxycodone.

The depth is the point. The people in the league are focused on future prospects ($0.05 for the person who can name the forum). I picked up Tyler Meyers (drafted?) last year. The first half of this year he **** the bed. I had to bet on him being a future all star or I would have dropped him. He was -20 or something at 40 games. He should cover the bet. I also kept a lot of injured players at the end of the season and into the playoffs. You have to look at next year.

And it's supposed to punish bad drafting. The IRL league does as well.
