Reading is simple. You keep creaming your pants over Luongo. I'm talking about the team as a whole. I'm done talking about this until you get a tutor who can teach you how to read.

Maybe your tutor can also explain to you that regression to the mean is not an artistic concept. In fact, it's an empirical observation based on numerical trends.

Not how you're doing it. You're pulling a number out of your ass. I'm looking at his actual season stats.

      • Boston is lucky to have gotten a win the last two games. Luongo has outperformed Thomas regularly, and if it wasn't for Bettman paying off the refs to give Vancouver as many penalties as they did, we would have won.

Did you see the look Thomas gave Burrows last game? He should be suspended for 15 games.

Are you suggesting that the mean of their overall season performance would put them at +7?

          Luongo has outperformed Thomas regularly
Indeed he has. Thomas outplayed Luo for two games, and Luo outplayed Thomas for two games.

if it wasn't for Bettman paying off the refs
I argued that the suspension was ****. That being said, you argued that the refs were favouring the Canucks. The only one who's *****ed about the officiating all series is you.

          • Quote me whining about the officiating. Quote me saying they favoured the Canucks.

Then apologize for not knowing how to read and misrepresenting my opinions.

its futile. Back in a prior series I mocked his officiating whining by stating that ben should be upset by all the Vancouver PP (since he tracks the number each way each game). I was mocking HIS whining in a way that everyone else on here , other than Ben, understood. Yet Ben went on and on about how I was whining about the officiating.

oh and Ben I am sure you will call me a canuck hater or something, but its not the case. I was a Hans fan before the Flames even existed and as such have a long deep seated rivalry with the Bruins. I doubt you can quote anything I have said that indicates I favor the Bruins-- I only say I doubt instead of "I know" since if I said that the temperature in Boston was higher than VANCOUVER on a given day, I am sure you would interpret THAT as something crazy

Where was I two games ago-- I don't know-- taking care of my kids, maybe at my cabin, out buying a seadoo, perhaps having sex with my wife-- what the hell difference does it make where I was-- I had a vacation day today so i popped in to banter about hockey-- My availability and inclination to pop by are sporadic and not at all governed by how the series goes-- I wasn't here after game 1 or two nor was I here after game 3 or 4-- the Luongo suckfest. I am on vacation today-- the day of game 5 so I popped by--Oh and I specifically mentioned the good and the suck--

Its funny-- you see your own crazy level of bias in everyone else. We all aren't asher who has a similar level of bias with you with the main difference being he applies reason more frequently -- There's lots of fans of other teams in here who have no particular hate for the Canucks and most are saying similar things about Luongo. How can any sane person NOT have questions about a goalie who is supposed to be elite and who has had TWO meltdowns these playoffs. Ben go into your bag of slanted statistics and find any other supposedly elite level goalie that has had two separate two game meltdowns in the same playoff year. I'll be curious what you find.

Tonight will be interesting-- which Luongo will show up? I confess I have no idea if he will surrender none or 7.

Oh and all this regressing to mean talk is ludicrous. The playoffs are different. Vancouvers plus 80 or whatever was with about half their games against non-playoff teams and to expect that "mean" to carry through in the playoffs is ludicrous on its face.

I still see Vancouver as the more talented team-- If Luongo can come close to competing with Thomas in level of play, the Canucks could prevail

Last pet peeve-- Ben-- while winning is huge, a goalie can be fantastic, and even be seen to have outplayed his rival goalie even in defeat-- It is possible--

                • My last take on goaltending so far

Crawford-- outgoaltended Luongo by a clear margin
Rinne-- edged Luongo by a narrow margin-- his team just wasn't competitive
Niemi got schooled by Luongo-- San jose otherwise matched up well and probably could have won the series if Niemi had been anywhere near Luongos level in that series
Thomas-- should win the Vezina and is has a clear margin on Luongo in the series

So my problem with Luongo as super-elite is he lost or is losing the goaltending matchup in 3 of 4 series. I know that assessment is an opinion but its one shared by many, including many Canucks fans who are capable of analysis

                    • second PP for the bruins-- it must be a conspiracy LOL--- seriously though Henrik hit a guy like 4 times away from the puck-- I think the refs called him for the cumulative nature of the interference

                      • CBC showed Luongos playoff stats
                        9-3 .938 at home
5-5 .885 on the road (did this from memory but it certainly tells a story-- very good at home-- not NHL calibre on the road)

                          • another Vancouver penalty--stick and elbow making contact with the Bruins head

I see three penalties that were fair enough (the Sedin one was a little questionable since each incident he didn't interfere much but he did do it 4 times in 30seconds)-- Boston could have had a too many men penalty but nothing else stood out

Ben I bet all you see is +3-- does merit of the calls ever matter to you?

Luongo is playing well so far

                            • NHL: Toothless Players Gumming On Each Other's Fingers Is Harmless

                              June 8, 2011

NEW YORK—In response to critics calling on the NHL to suspend Canucks forward Alex Burrows for biting an opponent’s finger during the Stanley Cup Finals, league officials released a statement Tuesday saying that toothless hockey players gumming on one another is harmless and to be expected. “[Burrows] is going through a phase where his mouth is really hurting him, so it’s completely understandable that he would gum down on a competitor’s finger to get some relief,” said NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, adding that most hockey players begin gumming on fellow competitors’ hands four to six months into the season. “Most of the time they’re not even angry when they do it. They’re just looking to explore. It’s actually kind of cute.” Bettman went on to say that the NHL “cares deeply” about athlete safety, and always makes sure not to leave any small objects around the ice that players could put into their mouths and choke on.
