Interesting stat. To give you an idea of SOS, the Canucks have had the most difficult road since the '07 Ducks won the cup in the post lockout era. This is despite being the 1 seed. They have faced the 2, 5, and 7 and 9 seeds by goal differential.

This puts them at 130 percent of the average difficulty.

2011 VAN 144
2010 CHI 110
2009 PIT 117
2008 DET 79
2007 ANA 186
2006 CAR 56

They have had the worst schedule you could have hoped for as a 1 seed. In each round, they faced the very best team they could have faced.

Oh, and those Leafs? They were the 3 seed and defeated the 1 and 2 seeds back to back.

Yes, the President's Cup winning team with most goals scored for, least goals scored against, best powerplay, best PK, etc. A very difficult road indeed.

Facts are stubborn things. I'll have to look and see, but I don't know if any 1 seed has ever had this hard a road.

Colorado in 2001. Defeated Vancouver +1, Kings, +24, Blues +56, Devils +100 for 181 and 163 percent of average difficulty.

I think you're saying Vancouver made it difficult for themselves. They almost failed out in spectacular fashion in the first round.

The only thing making Vancouver's road hard is Luongo and the Sedins.

Are you saying it's usual for the 1 seed to face a team like Chicago in the first round? This year was unusual as you had two very strong 8 seeds, Chicago and the Rangers.

The only stronger 8 seed I can find is Vancouver in 2002 when they were +45. There were 5 points separating 2 from 8.

The only thing making Vancouver's road hard is Luongo and the Sedins.

Unfortunately, the facts show that this road would be difficult for any team. The Canucks have done very well.

Yes, it is usually for the 1 seed to face an 8 seed in the first round. Especially a team like Chicago which "backed into the playoffs", as you put it.

Because you seem under the delusion that they haven't earned their place. I'm curbstomping that now. They beat the best they could have faced.

To be 1 game away from winning the cup while being soundly outscored in the series is pretty pathetic, IMO. Wins are wins, but let's not act like the Canucks were anywhere close to being dominant. Couple bounces going the other way in Game 1 or Game 2, and the Canucks would be golfing right now. Bounce going the other way in Game 7 of the Chicago series, and Vancouver would be golfing as well.

They've been unlucky to face the best they could each round. There is no other arrangement that would maximize their competition then the one they got.

Really? I didn't see you citing their GA/GF when they destroyed the Sharks. Sure, they haven't been dominant against Boston, but neither was Colorado dominant against the Devils.

Does it make it easier to cry yourself to sleep at night? No, they have been very unlucky. They have persevered through all of it to be where they are now.

It doesn't matter if you persevere through lucky bounces to get you out of situations you dig yourself in.

FWIW I don't "cry myself to sleep over it". I would be very happy to see Vancouver lose, but it's not going to kill me either way. Least deserved SCF? Really? No, that still belongs to the '45 Leafs. They got blown out 10-3 by the Habs and were way more minus over fewer games than the Canucks going into the SCF.

But if it makes you feel better, you can think otherwise. The Canucks would have to lose by 4 tonight in order to own the record at -7.

Leave it to Vancouver to manage to win a series despite being grossly outscored and systematically outplayed.

It's called clutch, but as a Flames fan I can see why the concept is alien.

And to be 'systematically outplayed'? They were outplayed in 2 of 5 games. In the other 3 they outplayed Boston.
