  • I doubt Ben even saw the game. He's in Texas now, not that he's ever watched hockey in his life (judging by his knowledge of the sport).

The good news is he's getting better.

BTW, these numbers clearly reinforced your comment about him being one of the top 5 goalies ever. Really stellar, clutch player.

      • I think Anaheim is the worse matchup for this edition of the Canucks. Anaheim knows how to get it done, and has been playing excellent hockey. The Blackhawks are only a threat when they put the effort in.

I was expecting the Hawks to come out on fire. Instead Detroit pasted them 2-0 and managed the rest of the game. That was their up and down play they've shown throughout the year.

I said, back in January that if the Hawks could finally put it together they would be where Anaheim is today. My surprise is that the Yotes hung on as long as they did and that the Hawks seemed thoroughly disinterested in clinching.

They are a dangerous team, I rank them 4th in the west with Anaheim 5th. Bettman seems to have gotten the pairings he wanted on both sides. He got the Rangers in and the Hawks in, weak sister of the poor against Pittsburgh and the toughest matchup in the East against the Habs.

Same with the west. Weak sister of the poor against the Red Wings.

Watched both games. Chicago got smacked around by the better team with more desire.

          • What channel did you watch it on, Ben?

You must have a bizarre definition of "smacked around". The Hawks had more shots, especially in the third (17 shots Chicago, 9 for Detroit).

            • 2007 playoffs: 95.0%, 1 GA

              Series-wise:

              228 of 240 shots for a .950 average. That's just crazy good.

                What, the Hawks game? NBC.

What about the 2008 playoffs, when he lost the do-or-die game to make it in the playoffs?

But you're right -- he's not getting better! He's clearly getting worse. I stand corrected.

I thought you said he was a choker? If he were a choker, shouldn't he have choked in the very first playoff series in his life? Instead he played insanely well.

Did he win that game? I thought he lost.

He not only choked, but he choked in spectacular fashion in the last two consecutive do or die games against the Hawks. Talking about a series 4 years ago against a different team while disregarding the last two appearances by the same team is just pathetic.

                          .
Ben--Here is your usual level of accuracy-- Instead of "pasting them" 2-0 and then managing the game . . . in the actual game they played a scoreless first and then CHICAGO scored first . Detroit replied with a quick two and then held that margin into the 3rd-- Detroit scored early in the 3rd but Chicago responded within about 2 minutes. Detroit got a two goal margin again but again Chicago quickly replied and were unlucky not to tie it in the closing minutes. Overall they were within one goal of Detroit for all but about 6 minutes of the game so yourt portrayal is as disingenuous as usual.

                          • Oh so first playoffs are the test-- Steve Penney for the Hall of fame !!! His first series he played insanely well!! Three shutouts and 9 wins-- THats what 4 more wins and 3 more shutouts than Luongo

Meanwhile, Jacques Lemaire became the Habs' head coach. He found the inconsistent play of his goaltenders, Rick Wamsley and Richard Sevigny, to be intolerable. To make his point, he summoned Penney from the AHL just in time for the playoffs of 1984. The startled rookie seized his opportunity by winning nine playoff games?three as shutouts. He became the toast of Montreal
Oh and ben?? How did Luongo's second series go in 07? MIght he have given up 5 in game 1 ??

                            • Hawks backing in was kind of depressing.
                              But at least they're in.

I don't have a good feeling about this team.
