  • Hey Ben, Doug Flutie never threw 58 TDs in a season, college, CFL, NFL, or in your dreams

Oh and those 58 passing TDs were complemented by another 5 rushing TDs

    • It's the CFL
Yes, but he did own all those records.

And the only reason why Colt is 4th in yardage is because he only played 3 years. Graham Harrell, Ty Detmer, and Timmy Chang each played 4+ years.
Flutie had the career yardage despite only playing 10 years up in Canada.

The entire point is that I'm not going to act like Colt Brennan who now plays in the UFL is the greatest QB of all-time because he was possibly the greatest COLLEGE QB. Who gives a **** if Flutie was the greatest CFL QB?
Flutie is the only significant NFL QB for which his time in the CFL is relevant to any discussion of where he stands among his peers.

Hey Ben, Doug Flutie never threw 58 TDs in a season, college, CFL, NFL, or in your dreams
True, but he did own the QB passing record in the CFL. Maybe Colt Brennan should try a stint. Sure the CFL isn't the same as the NFL, but it's still professional football and at a higher level than NCAA.

      • Yes, yes, Flutie's domination of an inferior league is noted.
He decided not to gut it out in the NFL, and went to play big fish in a small pond.

Believe what you will about your personal hero, but not being able to compare apples to apples in level of competition is actually a huge negative for Flutie.

            • Anyway with that Heisman talk, like I said, about 50% of Heisman-winning RB's become elite at the NFL level. There were some busts (Ron Dayne , Rashaan Salaam) and some guys who had serviceable careers (Mike Rozier) but, all in all, avoiding a Heisman-winning RB would have been a bad draft strategy.

For QB's, though, Roger Staubach is the best Heisman-winning QB and I'd probably take Plunkett over Testaverde. That's pretty bad.

Personally, if I see a player that I cut dominate the CFL, that's a sign that my development sucks. That and not having an NFL calibre QB ever.

When's the last time the Bears had a good QB?

This is why Ben Logic sucks ass. Maybe the CFL sucks and that's why the QB who couldn't play quarterback for the freaking Bears (!!!!) dominated the CFL.

                    • Whoah the 86 Bears. How the hell did they go 14-2 with these QB's?!

Mike Tomczak: 1105 yards 2 TD 10 INT
Jim McMahon: 995 yards 5 TD 8 INT
Steve Fuller: 451 yards 2 TD 5 INT
Doug Flutie: 361 yards 3 TDs 2 INT

                      Those 4 QB's combined for 2551 yards 12 TDs 25 INT

                      And the Bears went 14-2

That could NEVER happen in today's game

Oh and rookie Flutie was the best of that bunch. The Bears still ditched him

So Weinke only had 2 career wins, eh? I'm surprised the Panthers got him mentoring Cam Newton.

He was the only one with a positive TD to INT ratio. His problem wasn't him, his problem was the Bears. They couldn't find a QB at a Manning reunion.

                            • I won't rise to the bait on the Bears troll, Ben.

Along with the obvious issues with his measurables (i.e., being short), Flutie's bigger problems in the NFL were (1) signing with the USFL out of college, then (2) crossing the union picket lines during the strike. That's no way to make friends. With those moves, he alienated both management and his fellow players. This "me first" attitude proved to be his biggest enemy. It's not surprising that, after failing to impress in New England for three years post-scab, he then fled to Canada for the better part of a decade.
