Ben -- just so you know, I accept and know what the general reputation of IGGY is, but don't buy into him as the "great leader"-- To me to be a great leader you need to lead to success. Other than 04, Calgary has had zero playoff success. Some times the team was not good enough to realistically hope to win and there were a few years where Iggy's personal on-ice performance was stellar.
But a leader also helps turn a team into a cohesive unit that will sometimes out-perform expectations. I have not seen that enough from the Flames in the last 6 years. I have seen numerous examples of Iggy's personal play being stellar and turning around a game. This isn't about that. Its about the performance of those you lead.
So Ben you can try to paint me as an Iggy fan-boy all you want but its simply not true. I see his good and his bad but some things are simply beyond dispute. With 9 30 goal seasons he is in elite company surpassed only by 9 players. He is undoubtedly widely respected. His personal play has often been elite. he has had a key role in two gold medal game victories over the US. I see these things as established facts.
What I don't see is that he has necessarily been a great leader for the calgary Flames. Great leaders find a way to succeed if given a reasonable opportunity.
