Pyatt's fiancee killed in car crash in Jamaica - reports

VANCOUVER - Vancouver Canuck Taylor Pyatt is on his way home to Thunder Bay, Ont., after his fiancee was killed in a car accident, according to media reports.

Carly Bragnalo was killed in a car crash in Jamaica Thursday.

The couple was to be married this summer.

Ever wonder about those conversations in the penalty box? You know, where it appears like two sweaty and incensed men are cussing each other out?

Well, wonder no more. It might be more civil than you think.

Last Saturday at the Pengrowth Saddledome, after Calgary D Dion Phaneuf pancaked Minnesota RW Marian Gaborik, D John Scott rushed over to confront Phaneuf. Scott was hungry for a fight. Phaneuf, not interested in tangling with a six-foot-eight rookie, slashed the stick out of Scott’s hands.

Both were nailed with minors.

And that’s when their conversation began.

"He told me to go back down to the minors," Scott told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "He said he’s just doing his job, and I said, ‘Well, you hit my best player. What do you want me to do? I’m just doing my job.’ He’s like, ‘All right then. Fair enough.’ And I’m like, ‘Good.’ "

Scott added, laughing: "It was almost like we both came to an agreement."

Maybe they can chat more this evening when the teams meet again, this time in St. Paul.

At any rate, Scott admits that he’s a work in progress, fighting-wise, after a four-year career at Michigan Tech.

"I’m not a good fighter," said the 26-year-old. "I’m not going to sit here and lie and say, ‘Oh I love fighting. I’m great at it.’ But it’s something I have to do. I’m six-eight. I have to answer the bell. I’m not a great tactical fighter or can throw bombs like (Derek Boogaard)."

Damn, that's horrible for Taylor Pyatt.

We should just scratch him for the next while so he can go home and get his affairs sorted out.

I am at the Toronto airport for between 45 and 90 minutes on between one and two occasions about every 2nd to 3rd week. Thats as far in Toronto I go

Yes, the offensive powerhouse known as Dallas. Just about pissed the game away in the last minutes.

Ducks/Nucks is always high scoring. Canucks let one slip away here. Should have had the win in the bag at 4-2.

Oh well, off to Edmonton, which should be a fun game and then Calgary at home.

Calgary clinches, Vancouver clinches.

Edmonton is eliminated I believe. Ducks won, Blues won.

Edmonton in not yet mathematically done but if you look at my prior post on the topic Edmonton's chances now are something like "win all their games and pray some other contender (actually 2-3 of them) goes a bit LESS than .500" . I COULD be more detailed but thats the gist.. So the hope is done to two chances slim and none

Interesting ben that you said earlier that it was most likely that all of the Oilers close rivals would lose last night. When will you learn Ben that there is a reason they play the games??

I'm concerned about Regehr's injury. We need him bad in the playoffs.

Also, Boyd sent down to QC...Negrin, Pelech recalled.

Regehr down is a big concern. Up a goal he is the d-man I usually most want to see out there

Boyd sent down ?? WTF??!! For some reason he always seems to be in either Sutters or Keenan's doghouse. When elevated to the higher lines he often produces pretty well and digs hard but he still ALWAYS seems to be the first guy relegated to 4th line duty and I totally don't get sending him down-- perhaps an attitude thing and they want to send a message?? based on his play I don't get it as I have frequently thought of him as a guy who should get a REAL chance to crack the top two lines (try him out there for a few games rather than 2 shifts)

Its tough-- its definitely All of the top shut down pairing and the next best defensive defenceman (although Sarich has been in and out of the top 4 as he and leopold seemded to be back and forth on that)

Add Giordano to the mix and its not good times for their d


Now against Minny, the Flames weren't playing that bad-- Kipper was no prize at times and now it appears Minny wants to play intheir defensive shell


Oh and the flames dressed only 10 forwards tonight-- Apparently Boyd and other forwards were sent back down to the minors to free up cap space-- THats actually pretty poor management by Sutter that he cannot bring up pretty low salary replacement guys for the injured d-men without then fielding less than a full roster

I want to thank the Oil for coming up big-- They still have a very very tough road . . .. and its probably completely out of their hands with Nashville and Anaheim wins last night

Lets see if Edmonton wins their remaining three games they can finish with 89-- they also need 2 or more of the following to happen

Anaheim get 0 points in the last 3-- Anaheim owns the tiebreak with 41 wins already
Nashville get 3 or less points
St Louis get 3 or less points

Tough indeed-- but it remains likely that Edmonton will still have something to pay for at least at the beginning of their home and home with the Flames
