I think snoopy and I have given you a system that is far more reasonable.
Wackjob random numbers arbitrarily pulled out of thin air do not a proper statistical analysis make.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
So you'd rather let others do your thinking for you?

Or, rather, I let those who are experts in statistical analysis crunch the numbers for me. I see what they start out with, what they are attempting to show, and how they attempt to do it. Since I'm not skilled on how to get there, I let them do it. Which, mind, is a far better solution than just subtracting 40 yards for any player in purple or whatever you'd like to come with up next.
Lemme guess, you don't let those damned "scientists" do your thinking for you at the nuclear power plant. You go in there yourself and split your own atoms to make your own power!
(oh, and let me add... ironic words coming from a Catholic)

Where did I say there was anything wrong with that?
I'm not the free-thinking autonomous liberal.

Yes, I'd rather let people whose numbers and statistical abilities I trust, and far exceed mine, do it.
And while I don't have time to check, I am fairly sure DYAR (and EYAR), and possibly even VOA/DVOA, are adjusted for fumbling. IIRC it depends on where the fumble occurs on the field (a fumble at the 50 is not as bad as a fumble on one goal line or the other). They do funny things like 'actually calculate how many points are, on average, scored/lost because of a fumble'. Odd, that.

I like your SNOOPY POSTER! - While you Wait quote.
I'd be really interested to see the average number of points scored off a fumble.
If a point is worth about 20 yards, then a fumble is only costing you 2.5 points.

Interesting. They say that Scifres had the best outing of any punter ever since 1995

IRVING, Texas -- Troubled cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was released by the Dallas Cowboys following a season in which he was suspended six games for an off-field fight.
The announcement came Wednesday, but the transaction will not become official until Feb. 9, the first day NFL teams can make waiver requests.
The Cowboys traded for Jones before the season even though he had been suspended for the 2007 season because of a series of off-field incidents.
He missed six games this season for violating the league's player conduct policy after an Oct. 7 scuffle with a team bodyguard at a Dallas hotel. He missed a seventh game with an injury.
Jones averaged just 4.6 yards per punt return and had no interceptions.
