  • I think not just cancelling the previous game was strange. Take it up in the 6th. If they keep stretching out the baseball season, the World Series could be a double-header with the Super Bowl.

            • Congrats Phils ... a well made team and a well managed and played playoffs.

If they can keep Blanton and/or acquire another SP, they will be a scary team in the NL for years.

              • Congrats.

But as for Blanton... they should probably, IMO, go for another pitcher... based on what Blanton is asking for. He seems to be a fairly average pitcher on the numbers.

                • I think he's substantially better than 'average', but I don't know what money he's asking for ... he should get on the order of Jon Garland money I'd say.

                  • Jon Garland is also about to find out what "Jon Garland money" is...

                        Career OPS+ of 101 at age 27. So, he's 1% better than average .

He has never lived up to the promise of his 2005 season when he had a 123 OPS+.

Garland is probably a good comparison, actually, but there is no way Blanton should get close to $10 mil/year.

                        • Blanton will be back because he's not eligible to be a free agent. I do not forsee the Phillies trading him.

                          • I was wrong about the Rays.

I thought they'd fold down the stretch.

Congrats on your excellent performance. I was hoping they'd win just to cement the fact that the American League East is the most difficult division in baseball.

Oh, really. I was misinformed then ... at some point they talked about him hitting the FA market on TV. I should know better than to trust Fox Sports though

                              • Ah, they may have gotten confused that Blanton is eligible for arbitration this offseason.
