A very good effort by them but the Shootout loss hurts plus they lost Regehr to a broken foot. So it will on the road for 6 games with two regular defensemen out-- So its gut-check time for the Flames

Edmonton lose 4-3. Stoll and Torres got their wake up calls and came dressed as healthy scratches.

The Oilers score in the final minute and then hit a goal post with seconds left.

I'm not entirely unhappy.

Nabokov just shut out Phoenix for the 3rd straight time-- His shutout time against them is something like 225 minutes-- This one was a 1-0 win where Phoenix had a ton of chances

I've no idea what the hell is going on in Edmonton, but saying Stoll and Torres needed "Wakeup calls"? They were two of your best players during the hot streak.

Stoll had 5 points in the last 5 games before he was scratched, Torres had 4 points in the last 5 games before he was scratched.

Do you mind explaining to me what "wakeup call" was needed?

Go figure that after two players gave above-average performances, they were punished for it and the Oilers subsequently lose.

Their replacements were Thoresen (0p, -2) and Reddox (0p, -1). What the hell was MacTavish thinking?

Stoll and Torres were both -2 against Pittsburgh. More importantly, they are veteran players playing in the 3rd period with a 2-1 lead and they went -2 in 3 shifts for a blown lead in an important game for the team. More importantly still, defensive coverage that MacTavish discussed with them was blown as if the conversations never happened.

Torres is less consistent than a Liberal prime minister.

Stoll is still not playing well enough if the Oilers are going to accomplish much despite the recent better performances.

Bottom line for both players, time is up. There is no more leash, and dressing for a game is not a given. Time to deliver, or else...

That's what many feel MacTavish is trying to communicate to them.

From what I saw in that game, MacTavish can take most of the blame. The matchups he was making were retarded and inconsistent.

He matched Stoll and Torres up against Crosby, and he undressed them when he woke up in the third.

A smarter matchup would've been Pisani and Horcoff. They're far better defensively than those two assclowns.

Then MacT is shocked -- SHOCKED -- when Crosby dances around them and scores a couple.

They are vets on a team of young players and they blew assignments while ignoring what the coach specifically coached them on.

What's MacTavish supposed to do? Ignore it?

He benched them after the 2nd minus. Apparently, he thinks they needed a bit more time to reflect on whether they want to be in the dressing room on game days or not.

MacTavish is supposed to play his best players. He didn't against StL for no reason but a retarded idea that he needs to "send a message" to players who don't need the message sent.

The Oilers are overachieving right now. Punishing Torres and Stoll for being -2 when matched up against Crosby is ridiculous, especially given how great they were for 4 games prior. As we now see, it was the wrong decision anyway to bench them for Thoresen and Reddox.
