My bad, TSN's stats are cumulative.

Well if you looked earlier in the thread I was mainly pitching Kolzig who is NOT a rotational goalie by any stretch-- but as I said I don't expect a deal with you anyway

I do expect it from the above 3. and I do expect Mason to be better even if he doesn't get as many wins and shutouts as previous years-- Fleury I have doubts about although he will get some wins if Pittsburgh continues to ride him

In the never gonna happen world I would love for Gerber to get traded to Pittsburgh --

Ahh in that case the .739 he posted in the Colorado game would haunt his stats for quite some time.

I actually expect that Nabokov's sv % will go even higher as the season goes on. San Jose played like crap early in the season and I expect them to be even better

..but if you made personnel decisions based on stats alone, you won't be very successful in most pools. Stats tell about the past, not the future.

Yes, they do. That's why you don't judge a goalie's performance based on a few games where the hockey gods don't shine on them.

He's already got a shutout this season too. He's a good goaltender, his team (and his play) has been crappy recently but it will pick up (and his play HAS visibly picked up).

          • UPDATE: Torres was fined, but not suspended, for his dirty hit.

WTF is that? If the hit was dirty -- and he's a repeat offender -- suspend him.

            • Do you know of anywhere with video of the hit?

I don't think it was suspendable, and the fact he got a fine is because he is Torres and he has layed some devastating hits in the past (both clean and questionable). I would be interested in the opinions of non-homers though.

Incidently, he is not a repeat offender for the purposes of the rules of the NHL. They have some really silly restrictions on what can be counted as previous infractions (something like only in the last year or something, IIUC). I do think they took his past into account with the decision to levy a fine though.

              • Check the CBC feed, 89 minute mark.

Torres is a player that is known to play dirty. The fact that his explanation is 100% implausible is all the more reason to know he did it intentionally. He's either completely retarded, completely blind, or he genuinely didn't see the skater infront of him and he barreled in at high speed, raised his shoulder, and smacked him upside the head with it from behind.

                • He's not even looking at Moss, or do anything else to indicate he's about to make a hit of any sort.

It's about 40 seconds in. I'd like to hear other peoples' opinions on it.

                  • Here's a question for you: Can you only see what is DIRECTLY infront of you, 5 degrees in either direction? No? Then why do you assume Torres can't?

You do have other people's opinion on it...NHL fined him due to it being a dirty hit. End of story.

                    • And no comment on the MacTavish shouting match infront of reporters? Is he still a good coach?

It wasn't end of story for you earlier.

Somebody distilled the TSN clip down to just the hit (no audio).

I think it's a good sign. Some of the leaders on the team aren't laying down and taking it.

MacT has a tendency to over manage. He also has no reservations when it comes to pointing out shortcomings of players.

Many people would say the coaching has been one of the major shortcomings for the last several games. If MacT was trying to lean on a player or 2 after a hard loss in Calgary, I fully approve of Staios telling him where to shove it.

At the same time, MacT didn't miss the net on 2 different breakaways.

Overall, I'm glad that there is some fire now, and not after 40 games. MacT can be a good coach. He can also be very frustrating. He's not top 5 in the league (certainly not at the moment) and nor is he bottom 5. I don't think his over managing has helped to this point though and something has to change other than his tendency to change lines every 2 shifts.

Oh, and it has been mentioned by media in Edmonton, but the story of the day is the return of an exiled prince.

                            1. How can you not see Moss if you're Torres? This is already being referred to as the "Torres Blindspot" online.
                            2. His left arm/shoulder moves out the second he hits Moss. Oops.

I don't think most people would agree with you that it is a good time that your coach and one of the top leaders on your team have a big shouting match. To an innocent observer, it would see that your players are tuning your coach out.

                              • Keenan pulled Kipper after a 3rd goal that Kipper couldn't even see. Looks more like he's giving McEllhinney some NHL experience and Kipper a rest as he's written off the game. The team's played terrible out front. I blame Edmonton, being around the team lowered the quality of play.
