And it's an early season sweep. Though not much time for bragging as the BoSox are in the Bronx next weekend.

And Matsuzaka got beaten down hard. Gotta fix that before next weekend... he probably won't be facing off against Wright again.

I wouldn't call it hard. So he beaned A-Rod in one inning and Jeter in another. He could have done better, but he came out with a win

So absolute worst case, the MFY can break even. Anything else, and its an absolute ass-whoopin'

Beaten down with run support for a change.

We'll see how it all ends up.

Obviously, not my hoped-for result, but not entirely unexpected. The only one that really hurt was the first game, which the Yanks really should have won. The other two were terrible mismatches in terms of starting pitching, and yet the Yanks were in both games. It was nice to see them hit Boston's top three starters, and hit them pretty hard.

So yeah, not a great weekend, but not the end of the world either. I was expecting 1 out of 3, and they should've had that but for Mo's implosion. Which, by the way, I got to watch at a bar with a bunch of Red Sox fans. Yay!

The only Yankee pitcher who went out and really pitched like a major leaguer was Andy Pettitte.

This must be the early season prelude to "Wait 'til next year!"

The MFY lineup always hits well at Fenway, and most everywhere else. That's what spending over a billion and a half on payroll and luxury tax this decade is for.

Matsuzaka will make some adjustments, Lester will be back in the lineup and Tavarez to the pen, and we'll see what Mussina and Wang have when they get back. Maybe you'll even get another game or two out of Pavano, before A-Rod opts out.

Meanwhile, the Sox offense was off to a slow start, as usual lately, and they're now swinging the bats - lots of averages moving up, and only Drew is at the point where there's no place to go but down.

Taking two out of three in the toilet would be great, but even one out of three is good enough right now.

A-Rod now has 14 homers in 18 games. This is absolutely incredible. And the Yanks ended up losing. A-Rod winning the MVP and the Yanks missing the playoffs with A-Rod opting out at the end of the year is looking better and better (*knock on wood*)

At least we'd then have a month of the announcers not talking about the @$#^%$#@ yankees... though they'd just talk about them anyway, like "Wonder if the Yanks would have won the series if they'd made the playoffs" and "Wow, the Yanks didn't make the playoffs, still shocking isn't it" ... and talking about the red sox of course :sigh:

Then we have another Midwest/West series, say, White Sox vs L.A. Dodgers, and again the Series is forgotten by the east coast media...

I'm not one of the loons, but you have to be aware enough to know that there IS a bias. Perhaps a justifiable bias - a higher percentage of viewership is in NY/NE than any other one geographical area - but they cover NE/NY teams more than they do midwest teams, period. Mark Buehrle threw a NO HITTER last week, and the lead story on sportscenter was Alex Rodriguez the hour I tuned in (I think 10pm central).

Look at the ESPN baseball lineup:
                          4/22 NYY v BOS
                          4/25 Det v Chw
                          4/29 ChC v StL
                          4/30 StL v Mil
                          5/6 Phi v SF
                          5/7 Sea v NYY
                          5/13 Det v Min
                          5/14 ChC v NYM
                          5/20 NYY v NYM
                          5/21 Bos vs NYY
                          5/23 Bos v NYY
                          5/27 Cle v Det

                          12 games there, and:

                          5 - NYY
                          3 - BOS
                          3 - DET
                          2 - NYM
                          2 - ChC
                          2 - StL

3 east coast teams, 10/24 game appearances on national TV between them. I wouldn't mind if they were *good* teams, two first place teams or some of the best teams in the league... but the NYY are 8-11. They don't deserve top showing right now, but the fact that they're the Yanks means they get it. On the other hand, out of the last four WS appearing teams (CHW,HOU,STL,DET) you have ... 6 appearances between the four of them, one more than the NYY by themselves.

It's not that I mind covering the east coast teams more. What I mind is covering them even when they're bad, like talking about the Knicks constantly for example, just like a local sports show. Right now the Yankees are doing nothing worth watching; nor did the Knicks in the NBA. Yet they still get significant coverage. That's not 'national' coverage, that's regional coverage that pays some attention to other regions.

You just don't notice it when you're on the East Coast, because they're covering the teams you care about, and you don't notice the lack of coverage from the teams you don't know much about or care about. But then the White Sox come in and win the world series, easily, because they're a $#^#%#@ good team, but nobody knows because they only had like 3 appearances on national TV that year...

I have to admit, I was left wondering what the coverage would have been like if a NY or Boston pitcher had tossed that no-no.

I saw that Chase Wright was chased right back to AA. Now they'll rush Hughes.

I just remember my cynic saying "hmm, I wonder what they'll lead with". (Actually, it wasn't sportscenter, it was Cold Pizza I think, or one of those shows). This was well after I knew about the no-no of course. I assumed they'd lead with the no-no but my internal cynic thought "hmm, it would be ironic if they led with a-rod or something stupid like that."

Then I silently cringed when they did
