My answer to the hypothetical is this: UM coach can tell his players that they need to beat OSU (their main rival) during the regular season. End of sermon.

P.s. I respect the UM coach for not lobbying. But Ned and the like are wolvie whiners. Not what I want in a fellow fan.

Michigan did get jobbed. Idle two weeks, and two different teams vaulted over them in the rankings.

The BCS was supposed to pit the top two teams against each other in the NCG, and that's OSU & U-M.

Imran, et al., why don't you anti-Michiganers ever address the home-field advantage OSU enjoyed. You seem to assume that Michigan and OSU played each other on an neutral field. They did not.

You didn't see me whimpering over Texas trying to play without their No. 1 QB, led by a guy who now has decided to leave Texas, because he looked like cow**** in relief of McCoy and wants a chance elsewhere.

If Michigan were truly a championship team, it wouldn't have mattered where the game was played.

As I said, the way Florida passed Michigan smells to high heaven, but the Wolverines do not have a "right" to the National Championship game. While you and I and probably >75% of football fans think Michigan would beat Florida easily, Michigan blew their chance at OSU, period.

I've been a Michigan fan my whole life. I went to my first Michigan game when I was 3 years old, and I remember it like it was yesterday. But the Gators are every bit as deserving as Michigan to play in the big game; one of the two teams wasn't gonna make it, and given that Michigan already had a crack at OSU, Florida should get their chance, and see how they fare. My guess is they will fare poorly, but that's all it is--an educated guess. I might be wrong; that's why we play the games.

Would it be so hard to adopt a 4 team playoff. Use something like the current system to decide a top 4 and have them playoff 1-4, 2-3 with the winners going to the College Bowl, held a week later.

The traditional big bowls can duke it out for the rights to hold the semifinals.


Would there be fights-- hell yes!! if you think its tough to agree on a top 2, the problem will be tougher in picking team # 3 and #4. BUT all real contenders for the crown should be in the mix.

We need to think outside the box when it comes to playoffs. No selection boards, no computer rankings, no polls.

Basic, rigid criteria. Only conference champions and independants with at least 10 Div. I-A victories and no more than 1 loss make the playoffs. Period.

Yes, there would be an essentially random number of qualifying teams each year; why is that a bad thing? Seed 'em based on polls or whatever, give the higher ranked teams whatever byes are necessary (if any), and let 'em settle it on the field.

No 4-team playoff, or 8-team, or 12-team, or 16-team. Only the teams that truly earned the right to say they are the best would be able to compete, and ALL of the teams that could make such a claim could compete--including Boise State.

If you don't know how many teams there are, so you don't know how many games there will be, it will be bad for planning for hotels, restaurants, bars, security, etc. They need to know well in advance that there's going to be a bowl in their city.
