It is an argument. You look at the safety of a car, by crashing it. Contraception is just the opposite, you gage it's efficacy by assuming everything is going to go 100 percent.

The thing is that every couple I know that has used birth control (the pill, typically), has avoided pregnancy, until they wanted kids, at which point they stopped using birth control.

Well of course, because they don't have to have kids unless they want to. Isn't that the whole point of abortion? No children unless they are wanted?

It works, Ben, and works better than most things in this world work. That they are not perfect nor impervious to human error doesn't tell us much.

It tells us quite a bit. I expect to hear numerous testimonies from people here telling me that condoms worked perfectly.

I think Ben is the main reason abortions should be permitted. After every discussion with him about abortions, I think the max age of the fetus for a legal abortion should be raised higher. When I first started posting here, it was the 2nd trimester. Now I'm up to 30 years.

I had a condom break once. In that situation, I *could* have fathered an unwanted child (or, more accurately, a child I was not ready to care for). The condom in question (Lifestyles) was cheap crap, and I could have paid a price for that. Fortunately, I did not. This does not, in any way, change the fact that birth control is very effective at preventing unwanted pregnancies. Both the stats and my experience back it up.

I say this entirely without rancor, Ben: anyone who has actually had a fair amount of sex w/o the intention of procreation (i.e. anyone who has had "protected" sex) knows what I am saying is true.
