  • Why is this bible site incorrect.
It's your source, rah. You're the one who quoted it.

    • So there are more teenagers than before, in contradiction to your earlier statement.
Teenagers as a percentage of the population have declined which confirms what I was saying. What most charts do is they look at the number of pregnancies and they calculate the percentage total that are teenage moms. As the age structure of the US population increases, it's only natural that teenage births will decline in proportion to the total number of pregnancies.

      • What most charts do is calculate the total number of teenagers and determine what percentage were pregnant. You're ignorant and/or lying.

The teenage pregnancy rate among those who ever had intercourse declined 28% between 1990 and 2002.
The teenage birthrate in 2002 was 30% lower than the peak rate of 61.8 births per 1,000 women, reached in 1991.
Between 1988 and 2000, teenage pregnancy rates declined in every state and in the District of Columbia.
By 2002, the teenage abortion rate had dropped by 50% from its peak in 1988.
From 1986 to 2002, the proportion of teenage pregnancies ending in abortion declined more than one-quarter from 46% to 34% of pregnancies among 15–19-year-olds.
Among black women aged 15–19, the nationwide pregnancy rate fell by 40% between 1990 and 2002.
Among white teenagers, it declined by 34% during the same time period.
Among Hispanic teenagers, who may be of any race, the pregnancy rate increased slightly from 1991–1992, but by 2002 was 19% lower than the 1990 rate.

        • No BK, you don't get to play it like that. You said:

          ...there are fewer teenagers.

          That is incorrect.

What most charts do is they look at the number of pregnancies and they calculate the percentage total that are teenage moms.

Really? Because the charts I'm looking at measure number of pregnant teenagers per 1000 teenagers.

          • Guttmacher for a fact, I know doesn't report abortions included in 'teenage pregnancies'.

Edit, ok, those are the right numbers. Thanks Loin, I stand corrected.

            1990 60.3 40.5 116.9 34.6 percent, 51.5 percent.
            1991 61.8 37.4 115.3
            1992 60.3 35.2 111.0
            1993 59.0 33.9 108.0
            1994 58.2 31.6 104.6
            1995 56.0 29.4 99.6
            1996 53.5 28.6 95.6
            1997 51.3 27.1 91.4
            1998 50.3 25.8 88.7
            1999 48.8 24.7 85.7
            2000 47.7 24.0 83.6 28.7 percent. 57.06 percent.

Percentage of teenage pregnancies resulting in Abortion has dropped by about 6 percent, and the percentage of teenage pregnancies resulting in birth has gone up by 5.5 percent.

You sure about that? Their chart lists births, abortions, estimated miscarriages, and total pregnancies, and the numbers add up correctly.

Yeah I wasn't sure whether the chart did as Loin's did and laid out abortions, births, and pregnancies. Thanks again loin. Had to read through it first, so please don't jump on me until I've had a chance to look over Loin's source!

The interesting thing is that despite sex education the abortion rate is still 9 points higher in 2000 than it was in '72. If sex education worked, shouldn't it result in fewer abortions, not more?

                      • Compare abortions in 1987 with those in 1954 and you'll have your answer.

                          '72 abortions were legal.

Ok, '86 is the peak of nearly 40 percent of teenage pregnancies resulting in abortion.

AFAIK, public schools in the US started their sex-ed programs since the late 60's. I don't see how the recent decrease in 1990 can at all be attributed to sex-ed. The run-up from 72-86 was also under sex-ed programs.

                          • Cherrypick some more dates to compare and let us know what broad conclusions they help you draw.

                            • How is that cherrypicking? I'm using your source. Cherrypicking would be assuming that 1990 is a date of significance.
