Well, yeah, that goes without saying

  • There are reports that a fuel depot in Belgorod - inside Russia, ca. 50km away from the border to Ukraine - is burning. A couple days ago also an ammo depot there went up in flames.

Eight tanks of fuel are on fire at the oil depot in Belgorod in Russia and there is a threat of the fire moving to eight more, Russian state news outlet RIA Novosti is reporting emergency services as saying.

The agency says that residents of nearby streets are being evacuated but mayor Anton Ivanov has said that two workers at the depot were not injured.

The regional governor earlier said the fire was a result of a strike by two Ukrainian military helicopters. Ukraine has not claimed the attack.

The BBC cannot independently verify the claims.

    I
f the Russian claim about a Ukrainian heli attack is true it would speak volumes about the state of "Russian air superiority".

Maybe it's been Ukrainian special forces led by James Bond?

When I read the story this morning I was so incredulous that I briefly entertained the thought that it might be an April Fool's story.

The best part is that is that it is confirmed not only by video footage, but by Russian claims that the attack will make peace more difficult to achieve! How incredibly rich is that chutzpah? I can't believe they can deliver that kind of statement with a straight face.

How in the hell can Russia not have air supremacy, let alone lack air superiority, especially a month into this massive campaign on their doorstep against an opponent with such a modest air force?

Ukraine may be good but the success of this operation is also a damning indictment on the effectiveness of Russian air defences.

What a bunch of babies. "They can dish it out but apparently they can't take it" as the old saying goes.

This must be wrong. Serb has assured us that Russia has air superiority. If I'm not mistaken he even backed this assertion up with an so it must be true.

I see two ways Serb goes with this:
                  1) It's fake! With Russia Air Supremacy this is impossible! It must be Russian's attacking Russians!
                  or, more likely
                  2) Look how dangerous the Ukrainians are! How dare they attack inside Mother Russia! Our peaceful military operation started 5 weeks ago to prevent this very kind of thing!

              • So far Ukraine goes "we don't deny or confirm" on this:

I'd also like to know what destroyed or sunk that Russian landing ship in the port of Berdyansk a while ago.

                • It looks like Putin could use some Ukrainians in his army. They fight better.

                      • When this is all over NATO should ask Ukraine if we can join them.

                          If they'll have us.

                      • 99% chance this is a false flag operation so Putin can convince the Russians at home the Ukrainians are a treat.
1% change that this is real and then the question is "yeah, so? You invade Ukraine, bomb its cities and kill its civilians. If the Ukrainians hit back at you, good on them."

In both cases Russian crocodile tears are extremely salty...

Why would they false-flag actually useful supplies rather than some civilians somewhere? That's bound to engage the people much more.

                      • If it was a false flag they would have struck a target more likely to generate outrage. Serb would probably be distraught at the loss of a fuel terminal but I doubt most Russians would,

On the other hand, striking a fuel depot makes incredible sense from the Ukrainian point of view.
