  • I am at the point where I wonder how many weeks, or perhaps even days, is the remaining life expectancy of Vladimir Putin.

One bullet and one man to pull a trigger on one gun is all that is needed.

Am I alone in wondering if Putin is finished?

The level of security this paranoid president has is certainly going to be absurdly enormous and thorough. Also things look a lot less desperate in Russia than in Ukraine and despite huge bounties and people hoping it might end the war, there doesn't seem to be many domestic attempts by Ukrainians to assassinate Zelensky so I would think Putin's odds of being assassinated by a Russian are likely much lower than Zelensky's of being assassinated by a Ukrainian.

OTOH, speculation about a serious health condition is stoked not only by his puffy fragile appearance lately but also by his actions. One justification he gave for his special military operations was that he didn't want to leave it for future rulers of Russia.

      • Yeah, the Russian economy is still not feeling the full effects of the sanctions. When many modern luxuries start becoming unavailable is when we'll see increasing unrest in Russia, but what the outcome is is up for grabs. It might turn into the next North Korea or Cuba.

        • I'm in favour of lifting the sanctions when Russia leaves all of Ukraine, including Crimea. If that is "never" then I'm okay with that too. They can be a frozen North Korea.

I would love them to keep it up until Putin is ousted and some deep cleaning of the political landscape is done, but I don't think it's realistically doable. Otherwise I agree with you.

            • Now that the U.S. has declared Putin a War Criminal, it will be very hard to lift sanctions until he is gone. Looks like the Iron Curtain has once again fallen. What surprises me is the momentum that support for sanctions on China is gaining should they decide to militarily supply Russia. History seems to be repeating itself with the East/west divide.

This would be good news for 'Formosan' friends of mine.

I don't see it happening. Putin has had 23 years to dig himself in and make sure no one can challenge him. Also he knows he can't retire as who ever follows will want him dead and try to recover as much of the money he stole as possible. Plus he can't leave Russia due to war crimes charges so Putin is there until he dies.

That said, I suspect sometime after Mariupol falls Putin offers a compromise where he takes eastern Ukraine and a land bridge to Crimea while Ukraine is forced to be Finlandized. Biden has already signaled he is happy to sell Ukraine down river.

That would be one option. Or I could blame myself for not putting on my coat. I however did ask Dinner opinion, not yours.

                        • It appears that never wins. Russia states their intent was never to take over Ukraine. They just wanted to degrade Ukraine’s military and consolidate their hold on the Eastern part of Ukraine.
