"McConnell introduces competing bill for $2K stimulus checks - One America News Tuesday, December 29, 2020 In an effort to compete with the Democrat-approved bill, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell introduced his own bill to provide $2,000 stimulus checks. McConnell proposed the new bill on Tuesday, shortly after he rejected a request for unanimous consent on the House’s bill. #UPDATE McConnell blocks Schumer’s unanimous consent request for $2K stimulus checks – https://t.co/jDy0hUSGhZ #OANN https://t.co/cqOu8JSx25 — One America News (@OANN) December 29, 2020 Unlike the Democrat approved bill, however, McConnell’s version would repeal Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Additionally, it would set up a commission to study voter fraud. This came after Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) vowed to delay a vote to override President Trump’s veto of the NDAA until the Senate votes on the stimulus payments. McConnell’s bill could provide a work-around to that filibuster. Unless Republicans have a death wish, and it is also the right thing to do, they must approve the $2000 payments ASAP. $600 IS NOT ENOUGH! Also, get rid of Section 230 – Don’t let Big Tech steal our Country, and don’t let the Democrats steal the Presidential Election. Get tough! https://t.co/GMotstu7OI — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 29, 2020"
And how does Trump win here?
He was trying to look like a hero after ignoring the whole bill process, and then stepping in late and demanding the $2000
Knowing that the Senate would never pass any such thing, the Dems in the House put up the vote and passed it on to the Senate knowing that there was no way McConnell would allow making his fellow Repubs have to actually vote on it and put it on record... so he countered with a bill that has no chance of being passed either. I think McConnell is the winner here. It was a great political move because it saved not having to vote on the original issue, and put on the table something the Repubs can actually vote yes for knowing the Dems will never pass it. And there won't be 2,000 checks for Trump, or his investigation, or anything. So again, how does Trump win?

    • He won by getting McConnell to put up a compromise bill, which McConnell did not want to do.

Then it would have to pass the House.

I don't how you can claim a victory for Trump when McConnell just torpedoed Trumps will... this "compromise" bill is nothing more than a tactic against the Dems. Again, a brilliant move by McConnell because it meets HIS NEEDS, and not Trumps
He knows the bill can't pass. And that's the way he wants it. Now the Senators don't have to go on record against the increase.
Even the Senators that didn't want to increase the check can vote yes on this new one, knowing they then go on record saying they wanted to give everybody 2000 and the Dems don't. Simply brilliant.
So what again did Trump win... he gets nothing but the Repubs he's been threatening get what they wanted.

And you have to love Trumps tweet blasting at the Repubs in the Senate...
"Republican leadership only wants the path of least resistance. Our leaders (not me, of course!) are pathetic. They only know how to lose!"
This coming from somebody who lost to what he claimed was the worst candidate in history

      • You sound like a QAnon person. It's a compromise, which is better than what Trump has. So it's a win. We just have to see what the Ds do. Maybe nothing, but you don't know that.

You are the one that sprouts QAnon stuff...
And anybody that thinks the Ds will go along with this is smoking something.
And sorry... McConnell stuck it too Trump and Ds with this one. Trump still has nothing new.

His whole reason for pulling the last minute $2,000 stunt was to make himself look good and to stick it to the Repubs.
And now, he still can claim he tried to do something, which hasn't changed, and the Repubs didn't fall for his stunt.
So nothing new here at all... He wanted the $2,000 checks, and he didn't get them. He can't look like the real hero now.
He didn't want just a compromise that has no chance to pass... he wanted the checks. Another Trump Loss.

It's proof positive that Trump doesn't actually care about the $2,000 or about helping struggling Americans.
Like everything else in his world, it's just another sad attempt to contravene the clear will of the vast majority of American voters.

This guy lost both popular votes by a total north of 10 million. If he was a Dem, you'd be laughing him out of office.

You really think the D's will go along with the fraud investigation? That would just add credibility to Trumps wild ass and unproven claims about how THEY stole the election FROM HIM...
And while I have no evidence or information about how many of the D's would be willing to compromise on 230, based on what has been said in the past, there is hard core bunch that won't support that no matter what. So in my opinion, there is no way they will find enough votes to get that either.

            • Investigations can discredit claims just as they can give credit. Depends on the Investigation. I really don't care about an investigation because I don't trust Congress but I care about Section 230. If the Ds prevent us from getting $2000 checks to protect Big Tech that's on them.

You don't give a damn about Section 230, except you've been told it's something the lame duck Pres wants.
McConnell has found a way to allow YOU to blame the Dems, but the simple fact is that his so-called poison pill bill just exposes (once again) the GOP and Trump bargaining in bad faith in a crisis, holding the nation hostage for their petty, vindictive agenda.

            • Typical... it will be on McConnell for throwing out a plan that he knows can't be passed.

              • Many Ds want to stop platforms from allowing so-called hate speech. A compromise is possible. Indeed that's the only way an amendment will get done.

Oh so NOW the Republicans are suddenly interested in compromise?

              • Not enough D's and a bunch of R's are against it.
A compromise that includes it will not get passed.
                And McConnell knows that.
And Americans will get screwed again.

A recently elected US lawmaker has died from Covid-19 - the first member of the US Congress to die from the disease.

Republican Luke Letlow, 41, had been elected as Representative for Louisiana's 5th district and was due to be sworn in on Sunday.

He announced on 18 December that he had tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted to hospital soon afterwards.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards ordered flags to be flown at half-mast on the day of Letlow's funeral.

"It is with heavy hearts that @FirstLadyOfLA and I offer our condolences to Congressman-elect Luke Letlow's family on his passing after a battle with Covid-19," Mr Edwards tweeted.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
