    • "A citizen journalist detained for more than six months after reporting on the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak has had a feeding tube forcibly inserted and her arms restrained to stop her pulling it out, her lawyer has claimed.

Zhang Zhan, a 37-year-old former lawyer, has been on a hunger strike at a detention facility near Shanghai. Zhang was arrested in May and accused of “picking quarrels and stirring up trouble”, an accusation frequently used against critics and activists inside China, after reporting on social media and streaming accounts. Last month she was formally indicted on charges of spreading false information.

In a blog post on Wednesday, Zhang’s lawyer, Zhang Keke, said he visited his client on Tuesday afternoon, and found her unwell and exhausted.

“She was wearing thick pyjamas with a girdle around the waist, her left hand pinned in front and right hand pinned behind,” he wrote. “She said she had a stomach tube inserted recently and because she wanted to pull it out, she was restrained.”

Zhang Keke said she was in “constant torment” from 24 hours a day of restraints, and needed assistance to go to the bathroom.

“In addition to headache, dizziness and stomach pain, there was also pain in her mouth and throat. She said this may be inflammation due to the insertion of a gastric tube.”

Zhang Keke said he told Zhang her family, friends, and lawyers had urged her to stop her hunger strike, but she refused. He said Zhang told him she had expected a court hearing in December, and now it appeared there were no plans to hold one, she didn’t know if she would survive.

Zhang was previously detained on similar accusations by Chinese authorities in 2018, and again in 2019 for voicing support for Hong Kong activists. She denies the charge of falsifying information, telling her lawyer that all the information was gathered firsthand through interviews with Wuhan residents.

Zhang is among several Chinese journalists to have been arrested this year after travelling to Wuhan to report on the virus outbreak and response.

Chen Qiushi, a former lawyer turned journalist, was detained in January. Li Zehua, who travelled to Wuhan to report after Chen’s disappearance, went missing in early February but was released in April. Wuhan resident Fang Bin who reportedly posted footage of overwhelmed hospitals, and filmed police knocking on his door went missing at the same time but has not been seen since.

The Chinese government’s crackdown on activists, dissidents, and human rights works appears to have worsened this year.

On Thursday Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) said this week alone authorities had detained lawyer Tang Jitian, and placed under apparent house arrest lawyers Xie Yanyi, Li Heping and his family, Wang Quanzhang and his family, and the wife of lawyer Yu Wenshang. Posting videos of some of the police action at the lawyers’ homes, CHRD accused authorities of turning “Human Rights Day into a field day for attacking human rights defenders”."

    • And this has what to do with your amazing claim of total mind reading?
And is this your support that people who think China Virus is racist are "Just like Holocaust deniers", because somebody else said it?
Try again... as usual, a long post that doesn't prove the point except that China is Bad. And that's not something in dispute here.

        No difference at all

    • "The Wall Street Journal reported that, in February 2018, Beijing’s chief trade negotiator was in Washington to try to avert a trade war. He turned to a select group of American business execs, mostly from Wall Street.

“We need your help,” Vice Premier Liu told his guests gathered in a hotel near the White House.

And who was there? Well, guess who? New York heavy hitters like BlackRock chief execs Larry Fink, David Solomon of Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon.

Goldman’s financial ties to China date back to the 1990s and the early 2000s during Hank Paulson’s very profitable tenure at the company. Now, of course, conveniently, Paulson later went on to be Obama’s treasury secretary. Well, now Paulson’s carefully cultivated relationship is blooming under the current CEO, David Solomon.

The Chinese Communist Party, according to the Journal, dangled the prospect of more investment opportunities in China, if Goldman and friends help navigate future trade deals with the Trump administration. Well, it looks like sucking up to China paid Goldman big dividends. The investment firm just confirmed that it will be the first global bank to get full ownership of its securities business in China.

And what about JPMorgan Chase’s CEO, Jamie Dimon? Well, ever since that meeting with that CCP official in 2018, he’s been extremely bullish on China.

“We’re all in. And so we’re not slowing down,” said Dimon in an interview.

“We’re all in, We’re not slowing down.” Not now. I’m sure it’s a total coincidence that China decided to give JP Morgan “full control of a futures venture in which it had a minority stake.”

And lastly, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink. While in Beijing in November 2019, he told his “China masters” that BlackRock should be a Chinese company in China. To his Chinese hosts, it was a welcome contrast to the hostilities from Washington. Larry Fink wears his China ambition on his sleeve, the Chinese know it.

Well, it should disturb you that Biden’s transition team is right now scooping up BlackRock senior employees. At a recent Bloomberg conference of irritated globalists, it was hard to tell the difference between what Fink and the CCP officials were saying.

“But the market is…In the desire for more stability, they’re looking for a voice that moderates that, a voice that incites. I truly believe President-elect Biden can be that voice of reason and is willing to work with the world on moving forward,” said Larry Fink on Bloomberg.

Meanwhile, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan said on Bloomberg that “we should build an open world economy that works for all. We must firmly safeguard the multilateral trading system under the WTO and unequivocally reject unilateralism and protectionism.”

When he said “multilateralism” there, what they all mean when they say that is “Chinese dominance economically and militarily.”

And to accomplish this, China isn’t just targeting American business leaders, but also rising political stars."

Personally, I care about all attempts to buy influence, whether a country, industry, or corporation. But there's nothing in your "OMG CCP" data dump to suggest anything other than the normal Maria-Butina-sleeping-with-the-NRA goings-on in the halls of DC.

But it does raise the question: Why are you so easily distracted by your masters telling you what to panic about today?

It's probably impossible to make you aware of how big a threat China is. But the answer to your question is that I know how big of a threat they are. Iow, I'm a nationalist.

        • Please state where I say I don't care. Oh, that's right, you can't.
But I am pointing out that private people, companies, orgs, other countries all try to do it. And the fact that China is doing it as well is just non news.

Russia successfully test-fired a Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile in the Arctic, the country's Defence Ministry has announced.

On Thursday, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov in the White Sea fired a Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile, hitting a naval target 450 km away in the Barents Sea at a speed of over Mach 8, Xinhua news agency quoted the Ministry as saying.

In early January, the same frigate test-fired a Tsirkon missile for the first time, striking a ground target over 500 km away.

I see a pattern. I identified some people giving China influence. You responded by saying that other people influence the government. Then I said yeah but it's China. You responded that other people get influenced by China and you falsely accuse me of not caring (without evidence).
