Their net income in 2017 was -$2billion ... and has been negative every year. Not only that, but their losses have been accelerating. This is in the 9th year of an economic expansion with the Fed pumping free money into the economy. When the crash comes, and it will come eventually ... it's going to be very hard for these debt fuelled corporations to continue to find suckers to give them money to lose. I'll believe in TSLA when they at least break even (after factoring out subsidies).
Judging by how well shorts do is silly. You and I both know the stock market is in a debt fuelled bubble right now. The only thing stopping either of us from becoming billionaires off this knowledge is timing it right. If you can time it right, you can own the world in a couple months. Timing these things is essentially impossible though, and shorts tend to be especially time sensitive. Shorts can get crushed even when a stock really is headed to oblivion. A lot of shorts got crushed on Lehman for instance. There's always short squeezes along the way down even if there's no "good" news, as shorts take profits and it squeezes the rest, sparking fear.
I'm not saying TSLA is a 0, there's definitely value there ... but I do believe it's quite overvalued for what it's current position is.
