Construction work doesn't pay what it used to 30 years ago. Get back to reality.

I live in the largest city (well not in the city proper but in the county) in California.

And also I live in a part of Los angeles county that has a higher income level and lower unemployment than San Diego does.

I have two job tests coming up for higher paying positions. One as an Assistant Utility Buyer for the LA DWP and another possibly as Transportation Planning Associate. Rather than being on a construction site for the city, I want to ****ing plan it.

You can't sit here and lie to me that construction work pays more than either.

If you live some where ****ty, move, and if you see high paying jobs but do not qualify then do what it takes to make yourself qualified. But don't sit complacently in a ****ty place and claim it is not your fault.

How much college do you think a construction laborer needs?
I live in a big city. Bigger than San Diego. Well county, but close enough.

I live in one of the most expensive parts of LA. Apartments in San Diego are a bargain compared to what I see. Same goes for houses.

You have no clue what I'm doing and you are wrong about construction work.

You don't get to tell me what I am complacent in. You don't get to tell me where I am living is ****ty.

The area I live in has a median income far higher than San Diego.

Construction laborers make around $23-$25 average in California. If they are lucky.

Edit: Clarification : I live in a part of LA County that has a median income $20k higher than San Diego.

Look at page 27C (top link) and you will see soils techs make slightly over $70 per hour for level one (entry level work). People with more experience make level 2 or level 3 work and then senior inspectors make PW2 or PW3 (all of which are higher paid).

Yes, a high school diploma and the ability to pass certain high school level science and math level tests is all that is needed. Some people are just lazy and complacent. Dig into public contracts and labor agreemebts to see which jobs to target.

There are many other catagories with pay rates spelled out. Over time (any work over 8 hours per day or on Saturday) is not uncommon and is paid at $98.88 per hour. Sunday work (which is uncommon) is twice the regular $70 per hour wage.

Then what is your excuse? Look at that labor agreement then get back to me.

You simply don't pay attention to the reality on the ground. Most in construction are nonunionized and as a result make $5 less per average then they would have in 1970. Check out the link I posted.

You can't bull**** me. I live in an area where the median income is 30% higher than San Diego county, and construction work is not desirable.

Excuse for what? Not doing construction work that pays $25 on average in California? The vast majority of which doesn't have any benefits?

I have a college degree and I'm not going to go into construction work.

I just told you two personal facts about me and two job tests I have coming up for two highly lucrative and sought after positions.

Who the heck are you to talk to me like that?

I live in an area that is way better than San Diego and I love the place I live in. I also afford it fine.

Rather than do construction work, I want to plan it around the city. No way in hell does an entry level construction job pay more than a planner job.

You're an idiot. It is a small field and all you do is pay attention to which companies gets awarded the juicy contracts then go apply to them. It is all public record so all you need is an internet connection and a willingness to read the god damned public records.

I have a college degree too and I do not work construction. I am an inspector and I make around $85 per hour 40 hours per week with far more for over time. I said my company has jobs at $65-$70 per hour and has a hard time finding qualified people.

You are not listening or are too dumb to understand simple English. Go ahead, read the ****ing labor agreement.

Now you are calling me an idiot... Lovely. I reported that. An idiot with an MA Degree and a desire to get into urban planning that pays 30% more than construction. Yeah that kind of idiot.

Goodbye dinner. I really tried reasoning with you but to no avail. The positions I'm trying to get with LA City and the DWP both pay far more.

This time I'm truly done. I know I have an issue where it is difficult for me not to respond to a troll... But I'm sure Rah would tell me to stop responding.

I reported your post anyways. Have a great day. I need to do my laundry.

And another set of lies and insults reported.

You don't make that and you are lying about construction work in general.

I'm getting into planning where I can make far more.

                        Adios.

Wrong. You live in a republican ****hole. LA has more to offer than San Diego and far more money.

The median income of the area I live in is $83,000+. $20k higher than San Diego.

I really need to get into urban planning so I can start reviewing and drawing up contracts. That **** pays a lot more than $23 an hour construction work.

Anyways the laundry won't do itself, unless you want to do it for me. I pay well lol.
