So if I'm reading the OP right, a single person did something slightly dickish and almost everybody immediately realized it was a mistake and said so? And then we decided to make a big stink about it (police officers are now considered offensive) because we clearly haven't seen enough ridiculousness this year?

Isn't everything cultural? Thinking it's acceptable for people to be made to work in terrible conditions for poverty wages is cultural.

No, but at a time when huge numbers of people are suffering economically, its unrealistic to expect them to prioritize civil rights for very small minorities over their own concerns. The old saying 'All politics is local' is one of the truest things ever said. People will relate everything to their own experiences and make choices they think will improve their own lives above other peoples. We're a selfish species, and expecting altruism in the voting booth is a good way to get your ass handed to you.

Community College is not a massive sinkhole. For-profit and some portion of the mid-ranked non-profit education is the massive sinkhole.

Again, why can't I take a course online at my own pace for a fraction of the cost?
